I know that it isn't coyote related, but there are several guys here from AZ who may be interested.
The drawing this year is a little earlier than most folks are used to.
PHOENIX – Fire up your computer: You can now apply online for Arizona’s 2007 elk and antelope hunts. Don’t forget the deadline to submit applications online or by paper is Tuesday, Feb. 13.
“We’ve been getting lots of calls from hunters wanting to know when they can apply online. Everyone can breathe a sigh of relief: We’re there,” says Arizona Game and Fish Department Information Branch Chief Bob Miles. “We’ve made substantial improvements to the system, it’s been exhaustively tested, and we’re confident it will produce a high level of customer satisfaction.”
Keep in mind this is the first year for an earlier application deadline for antelope and elk. The idea of having the rescheduled draw is to let hunters know early enough whether they have been drawn for these two popular big game animals, prior to their applying for fall deer, turkey, javelina, bear and buffalo hunts during the traditional application process in early summer.
You can get a copy of the 2007 Arizona Pronghorn Antelope and Elk Hunt Draw Information booklet either online at azgfd.gov/draw or at license dealers throughout the state. Please note that hunt-tag and license fees have increased for 2007. You can find the new fee information in the draw publication for antelope and elk (pages 4 and 5), in the 2006-2007 Arizona Hunting and Trapping Regulations – new 2007 fees table (pages 9 and 10) and online.
The deadline to submit an application for the antelope and elk hunts is 7 p.m. (MST) on the second Tuesday of February, which is Feb. 13. Postmarks don’t count.
The grace period for the draw will end at 5 p.m. on Jan. 19. During the grace period, if a paper hunt-permit tag application that is manually submitted contains an error, then the department will make three attempts within a 24-hour period to notify the applicant by telephone (if a phone number is provided). This allows for an application to be corrected, rather than being rejected from the draw; it also provides incentive for early application submissions.

Just as a side note, don't bother putting in for Antelope hunts 2025 or 2026 or Elk hunts 3092 or 3107. Rumor has it, those tags sold out early, so there is no point in applying! ![[Wink]](wink.gif)

As far as I know, they haven't announced it yet. They aren't real organized up there. I usually get announcements about things a few days or weeks after they have started.
When I get something about the deer hunt draws, I'll try to remember to forward a copy to you.

there are actually 2 drawings this year...
the first is for elk and antelope... there will be another for deer, bison and such...
The reason is that in the past, people would end up getting drawn for both, and then only hunt the elk or antelope due to the season overlaps.
organization and state government don't often go together...

Any of you local AZ boys got any ideas for what unit would be the best to draw or try to draw for? Sans Mogollin Rim. Im going to put it for first choice to build points in hopes of a draw someday, but not expecting it. I would like to stay in SE AZ somewhere.
The area I have in mind, I have seen some big deer when coyote hunting. Not alot of deer, but some dandys. And, its set up the way I want it for the style of hunting I would like to do. However, I read the website about the area and they really downplay it, almost as a waste of time for mule deer. Can you go by their assessment or not? Maybe I just got lucky seeing what I saw and it was a fluke?
Any ideas for some good foothills/drainage type hunting areas would be appreciated.

I've never hunted there, but I've always heard that the Kaibab was the best place to find Trophy Mule deer. Greenlee county is supposed to be great for Elk, but again, I've never hunted there.
Edit:
On their Website AZGFD post last years stats. Incuding the odd of getting drawn and the odd of being successful for each hunt. [ January 20, 2007, 08:44 AM: Message edited by: Tim Behle ]

I don't play that game, but I have heard that the point system is a total sham. Maybe you need to put those points in your will, so your grandkids will get lucky some day?
Just a thought, LB
