We had a good day of hunting coyotes. We used hunt and stalk methods. Seven coyotes where shot and four were given a second chance to change there ways. They only have untill tommorrow. LOL -

It looks like you had a great day TA17. Good work.

If you don't mind, give me a little run down of how you do your hunt and stalk methods and how you apply it to your area. It sounds like it works well for you and I'd like to hear more.

Thanks

Interesting tactic. Correct me if I'm wrong, but what you describe pretty much sounds like you use the very same tactics as the so-called rodeo hunters, except you park the trucks and do the entire thing on foot. You use large numbers of hunters (compared to the coyotes), you surround a section and protect all routes of egress, you send in someone to drive the coyote(s) out (but, just call them by a different name) and you use radios to convey information about the coyotes' whereabouts. The only big difference is that you can take your shot at long range when the stalk doesn't pan out, just like the coyote cowboy that uses trucks and rifles, whereas the dog man with a dog wagon has to actually move the coyote into open country, get a race on it and drop his sight dogs when he's within, say, thirty to fifty yards, max.

From your past description, I was under the impression that your coyotes were difficult to approach and uncooperative because of excessive hunting pressure. You got it easy. Around here, the wagons are plentiful enough that you could spend the entire day driving around looking for a coyote lying out in the open, and by mid-December, all you'll end up with is a max'ed out gas card because our coyotes just don't do that. At least, not the ones that plan on surviving the winter. And we've got more coyotes/ square mile than you guys do. Either way, interesting technique.

I still think it's more challenging to convince that coyote to get up out of that comfy bedding spot and come to me, and I don't wear my knees out in the process. But, to each his own.
