Thursday mid-morning the phone rings and it is Heather, “We HAVE to go to Winnemucca Nevada this weekend and it looks like we will need to leave Friday afternoon.” I thought hey that’s cool we can get there Friday night and take care of business and hunt our way home. [Cool] We loaded up and were on our way after we had been on the road for about 45 minutes Heather remembers a Family party that we needed to be to Saturday night at 5 pm. [Mad] My leisurely drive home while making stands just got shot in the backside. [Mad] While driving home yesterday I was looking at flags hanging from flagpoles hardly even fluttering. [Mad] I don’t know how many coyotes we drove by but it hurt to drive past some of that country and not blow a call. I needed to be home Saturday night anyway because a good friend who suffered through some of my early attempts was visiting his mother and we had planed a hunt. It started early this morning, we had a light skiff of snow and the winds were calm. The snow on the road made us a little late getting to the first stand of the day, but I spotted a coyote from the road and stopped to admire him. I asked my buddy if he wanted to kill that one, he replied “my gun is still in the case” the coyote stood there until he got the gun got out of the case then disappeared over the ridge. I told Wade that there wasn’t anywhere that coyote could go over there and asked if he wanted to see if he was standing on the other side waiting. We drove around the hill and started glassing. The coyote got nervous and started moving out. Wade got a good dead rest and I bark stopped him. Bang/flop at 260 (maybe 220 yards) paces with his 6mm. We made 7 stands and Wade managed to call up a single but missed him on his way out. That trip home Saturday would have been much easier if the wind was blowing. [Wink]

Boy, I've sure had some memorable hunts around Winnemucca.

Good hunting. LB
