Cal, I want to thank you for the advice you gave me about dogging coyotes through e-mail. I have had 3 different outings this fall where the coyotes worked my dog. He doesn't have the full idea yet but he will play a little bit of tag with the coyotes. Last week I had a coyote sit out at about 4oo yards and howl and bark for about an hour. I really couldn't figure out how to get him in closer. My dog seemed too played out after a while and wouldn't chase the coyote anymore. Maybe a second hunter could have snuck behind him, he was so intent on my dog I don't think he would have noticed. Should I expect the coyotes enthusiasim to be winding down this time of year? I sure do like taking my dog but not if it means seeing fewer coyotes. Thanks again.
Zach

Zack,
For most of the winter a dog is more of a hindrance than a help. Especially if it's a dog that wants to work a coyote at all. A little foo foo dog that just sits around you will help some, or at least not hurt anything, but you will be calling alot of young coyotes now and most will just leave if they see a dog, or have a dog build to them.
