Author Topic: Trapping pics for Loco Jrbhunter PAYS ATTENsION TO deTAIL Member # 459 posted October 28, 2005 04:21 AM                      Here ya go... you asked for some pics of my trapping trophies and this is all I've got this week. A few non-target critters in perfectly good K-9 sets! These are from the morning run... I check two lines at 4 a.m. before work and another one at 4 p.m. after work. Thanks man. My boy, Jacob and i had fun checking those out. He saw the picture of the possum and said, "Whoa, what is that dad, some kind of rat?" I told him it was a possum but i got to thinking, Yeah, what is it anyway? So i said, "Yes, its a rat that hangs out in trees." Wierd critter indeed. Please keep the pictures coming. Live animal pictures are great. I even like dead trapped picts. LOL Yeah, keep 'em coming!!!! Great catch. I got this little guy in a thicket up in the rimrocks. I'd have bet money there were no coyotes close when I set that bobcat trap. Most of the windmills you find in this valley, I've skinned coyotes off of. Handiest damned gambrels in the West! If you are talking of Gleeson road, it's south of there. The one I was thinkin of that looked alot like that background was off Gleeson, dont know exactly where without looking at a map. But I do know you go around a small mountain that has a road going around it all the way to the top. I havent personally skinned off one, but I have heard you talk of it, and saw some other guys doing it downt there last year. Pretty neat. I had a thing made that slips in my receiver hitch for skinning. Works pretty slick. Especially if you bring a rope and can back up to a tree or fencepost. If my boy can shoot straight this morning, Im gonna skin a deer on it. I'm using laminated Bridger #3's for the most part but I did catch one of these in a 1-1/2 Northwoods and snared another one yesterday. Those are some nice looking coyotes. The last two I caught were both heeled. Doesn't make for a very photogenic coyote. I stuck out a half a dozen sets last Thursday and used urine on them all. I think I'm going to put the urine away until after the first of the year. I'd rather catch them by the front foot, and get a better picture. No mange or rubbing... no scars or damage either. A couple weeks ago I caught a nice strawberry blonde that will go taxidermy. Here are some pics, she wasn't encluded in the ones above. That is a natural picture... with just a little cleaning and combing so the taxidermy crowd would be impressed. When taking trophy photos of big whitetails I often carry a set of glass deer eyes used in taxidermy... you can shove them in over top of the real eyes and you don't have that "Hollow-Hazy" look in your pictures. I didn't do that to this coyote though... just skinned her soon after the catch and combed her up a little bit with my strawberry shortcake fur brush. Here's another coyote that isn't shown above... I've officially caught a coyote by each foot this season. BIG circle torn up. One in particular had his hackles up the whole time I watched him in the trap and giving me the threat bark sequence the entire time. He REALLY didn't like being in that trap. -------------------- I am only one. But still, I am one. I've never had a coyote pull a drag this far. By the time I quit, I was a good 2 miles at least from the jeep, as the crow flies. Some of the stuff he broke off was a good 2" or bigger in diameter. He would never wrap around anything, Every time he hung up, he would reverse on the same trail and pull until getting free. He learned quick to avoid going close to any type of brush. It was amazing how he zig zaged between everything.
