Did you miss us?
Jeff and I got our camera out of the shop yesterday evening and had a little making up to do. We decided to do some calling in North Texas today and get a little different terrain for some diversity in volume II. We got alot of compliments on doing this in volume I and we figured if its not broke dont fix it. We called in some heavily wooded areas that is a far cry from the scurb brush of West Texas. Today it worked out pretty well for us. The first coyote we called up was in a very wooded flat in a creek bottom. You dont get alot of footage, but if you play your cards right you can get some exciting action on film. This one worked out well. This big male showed up 2 minutes in and ended up about 10 yards from the FoxPro and Predator Supreme.
We hadnt anticipated calling that area, but we had to make some adjustments to play the wind. All we had were rifles and it can be tough to get a clean shot in the thick stuff. Jeff did a nice job getting this yote on the ground.
Later in the evening we called a large hay field. It was about 400 yards deep and about 800 yards long. We set out the call and the decoy and used a row of hay bales to break up our outline and provide concealment. About 5 minutes in I noticed something at the far end of the field. More like a dot at 800 yards. The dot broke out into a run and headed strait fot the caller and decoy. 3 minutes later we have a large male at 50 yards staring a hole in our decoy. He took his time and checked up 5 times but he finally got he nerve to eat that screaming little furball. Here is the coyote on the way in. He is about 100 yards on a dead run.
He checked up one last time at about 20 yards from the decoy and just couldnt figure it out. He was an old scared up Male, we love teaching old dogs new tricks. We tought him how to roll over and play dead, he was a good actor.
Here is a hero pic. We took 3 coyotes in all but one had mange pretty bad so she is not pictured.
It sure feels good to be back in the saddle again. Hopefully we wont have any more camara problems.

Thanks guys, That coyote coming across the hay field was really something to watch. He had the decoy pegged from a LONG way. It is great stuff. Vol. 2 is really coming along good. Good Hunting Jeff

Jeff, even us desert coyote hunters are interested in pulling dogs out of the heavy cover. One can never have too much experience. Looking forward to Vol. II.

Rich, Beautiful camera work huh, Of course it was I was behind the camera. ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif) I'm just joking, Jeff does a fine job also. We usually keep the coyote pretty big in the screen, but I tryed to zoom out just enough to get the decoy and caller in the frame. I cant say enough about using decoys. I dont think that coyote would have been that bold without it.
Nasa, We know what you mean. We always call to the cover, and the cover takes on many different looks in some areas. Its pretty cut and dry around here. Out west it takes a little better eye. Glad you liked the pics. Still a little more of the fun stuff left before the real work begins. We will keep you informed.

Todd,
The shots in the woods and heavy cover are allways very interesting to me. I think its the veriety of different types of terrain that realy makes a good video. Keep up the good work!

Well, okay Todd. Since you prompt me. What I meant by my comment, was your setup with a decoy out in the middle of an open field. By the description, (and the pics) I can visualize that coyote romping in from 800 yards. What I would consider to be unconventional, but what the heck, it worked, right?

Your right, It is a little unconventional. Without a decoy I dont see it happening, more like a coyote stepped up on a treeline at 800 yards saw nothing then walked back in. We do this alot, more for the video sake than anything. We like to show coyote behavior, rather than just talk about it. He was a movie star for 3 minutes and displayed alot of different behavior in that time. We love to make them do what they dont want to do. We could have taken him several times on the way in, but we just let him come. Another thing that was amazing was our wind was about 100 yards to his right and he never went for it. He was hooked from the get go. You can bet if he would have made a move or acted like he would we would have taken action. With so many videos out today you have to do something different to set yourself apart. We take a few risks to try and do just that. Does it work all the time, Heck no, but when it does it sure makes for great footage. I am sure you also noticed we used 2 totally different tactics on these two dogs. We just like to show people there is more than one way to skin a cat, or coyote. I knew you were holding out on us , I am glad you stoke your mind. We want nothing less. Thanks for the reply, we love to hear others thoughts and ideas, expecailly those of the an old pro like yourself.

Always enjoy your teasers fellows. I can't get over how good the 'still captures' are from your camera.
I feel the need to clarify my earlier email to you. When you do get your video finished and sign the disk for me, Please be sure to sign the side of the disk with the picture on it. I know how Texicans can be.
