Tyler and I have a camera set up on Matties collar so she can record her mix-ups with the coyotes from her perspective. Another excercise in frustration. We've got some good stuff so far but not the teeth in your face that we're looking for. Yesterday we took Mattie out and I called in four coyotes that came in together, used coyote vocalizations( including howls, yips, yaps and estrous chirps, honest) [Smile]

so the coyotes came in deliberately and not in a rush. I was elevated with the big camera, good visibility, and Tyler handled Mattie. When I barked she knew it was time to get after it and Tyler set her loose. I got 22 minutes of her chasing them around and sometimes mixing it up with all four pretty good. It was all going on about 100 yards in front of us. I had a huge grin , just knowing Mattie was filming exactly what we have been working for for some time now. When it was over and done and we checked out the tape we discovered that the camera would break up into dots and lines when the action got going. Almost all of the action with the coyotes was lost, occasional glimpses that's all. So the camera goes into the shop today. Just got the Sony out yesterday and the big Panasonic needs cleaning before it goes belly-up This AZ dust is killer on cameras.

That's a bummer, Rich. I know how much effort you have put into this "Mattie Cam".

Hey Rich,
That sounds like it will be pretty cool stuff it it works out. I am sure just a couple of glimpses of the action will be some HOLY COW footage. Sorry about the cam, at risk of sounding unoriginal we know how you feel. Cameras dont cooperate alot of the times and it is hard to capture the excitement. Sounds like you are doing a good job though. I am already waiting to see the Mattie cam. I would put a camera on my dog but it probably wouldnt be very good footage, He is a 75 pound blood hound that just lays around the yard. [Big Grin]

Dang it, Rich, you're exploiting poor ol' Mattie for your own selfish gain. One of these days, she's gonna get her tail whooped up on and you're gonna have her glorious last moments right there on video. You can name that segment, "Ya'll wanna see sumthin' cool? Here... hold my beer!"

I'd be happy to loan you a morbidly obese black lab whose either incredibly stupid or incredibly brilliant. He'll sit and shake hands when you want him to, but other than that, nuttin'. Unless you count the fact that every time I turn him out of his pen, he runs round and round in a big circle, then craps on my lawn. Every damned time. Any more, I just run around behind him yellin' "No! No! No!" until he's so puckered up his eyes are crossed.

Anyway, looking forward to that Maddie footage when you get it.

Leonard, remember Doug McKlasson, aka vintagemxer? He worked at the VW proving ground in Maricopa and he told me that Volkswagon shipped this Arizona dust back to Germany to test their seals because it penetrated them like nothing else in the world.

Todd, I have lots of footage of Mattie and the coyotes. Mostly filmed by me or Tyler, some by her. Quite a bit of it will be in the video, including a few minutes of her being run ragged by a four month old pup. He'd make a run at her then break left at the last minute with her hot after him. He had his tail elevated and a big grin on his face the whole time. I had to slow most of what she filmed down to slo-mo so you could see the action. I edited in what I saw from my perspective then what she saw from hers. Turned out well. I have lots of Mattie cam of running coyote butt. We wanted lots of teeth. Maybe this weekend.

Lance, Mattie knows just how far to push it. She's never been cut or bit. Been doing it for four years, mixed it up with lots of coyotes. There is one clip in the video where two coyotes double team her and one is nose to nose with her while the other moves in behind and just as it reaches down to take a little hamstring Mattie whirls on it and sends it scooting. She's getting fat and lazy now, I have to bark a lot at her to keep her in the game.
