This is just waaaay too cool. Got them from a friend in NM.
One of you Californy-types wanna 'splain what it takes to acquire a set like this?

I will do my best.
First, you have to turn in a proof of kill to the points chairman, who dutifully logs in every single one.
When you have turned in 5 coyotes, you get a pin that says coyote across the bottom. You turn in ten and you get the second.
After that, you get a very nice 9" Paul Revere covered bowl for seven times the amount required for a pin, which in the case of coyotes, it's 5X7=35 animals.
For gray fox, you get your first pin with 4 animals. Eight, you get the second. There is never more than two pins for each species. 4X7=28 fox for your Fox Bowl, which looks the same, but it has a fox figure on top, instead of a coyote.
Bobcat, takes three for your first pin. 3X7=21 bobcat for the same type of bowl, and it has a bobcat figurine on top.
Badger is 2 ea. for your first pin. 2X7=14 total animals for a bowl. Unfortunately, they never sprung for a badger mold, so you get a numeral, (14) or a coyote mounted on the top of the bowl.
Beyond this, you get a pin and a bowl for a lion, or a wolf. Have to be called animals. To my knowledge, there has never been a wolf trophy awarded?
After this, there is a choice of a real nice western belt buckle or another bowl for turning in 100 animals. There is the same type of trophy for 250 animals and 500 animals and 750 animals, 1000 animals, 1250 animals, 1500 animals, 1750 animals, 2000 animals, and 2500 animals. They recepient has the option of another bowl for the closet, or a nice presentation belt buckle, with the appropriate number emblazened on the front.
Also, as far as I know, there has only been one 2500 animal trophy presented, and I presented it to my fellow Chapter member, Rick Orelli at the State Awards dinner about five years ago.
There is also a few honorary life membership pins out there, one owned by me. They look the same as the animal pins, except they are quite distinctive, in gold.
These pins and bowls and buckles are in addition to the cloth embroidered patches that are awarded for certain accomplishments.

Do the animals have to be taken on official club hunts or do all animals taken throughout the season count?

Each chapter has it's own rules, Bryan. The Riverside chapter, for instance, allows any animal, but charges three dollars for each, which they feel is justified to offset the considerable cost of the awards. Those bowls cost the Club over two hundred dollars, for example. Anything over 500 animals is split 50/50 between the Chapter and the State.

Those are some impressive numbers to put it mildly. Just shows what can be done and how good and dedicated some people can get.

Leonard, I came across my pins from CVCA/CH4 the other day. Also included is a gold Life membership pin-Ch4 for 100 animals. CH. 4 gave trophys instead of bowls. I've got 3-fox, bobcat, & coyote. Also has all the pins from Tucson calling club, including lion. I post an awards dinner picture sometime with Jim Dougherty and Goe. Allison at the head table behind Bernie Cramer and myself getting awards for highpoint team that year(1966). Pedro

Hey Pete, have not heard from you in a while. How did that chemo go? You huntin' yet?
Yeah, 1966. Chapter 4. You beat me by a couple years.

PS, I didn't know that Bernie was ever in Ch 4? All I know him from is San Gabriel #11 and National Chapter.

I'am doing good. It's been 1 1/2yrs. since my last surgery and 14mo. since end of 2nd. chemo.
My life is now measured by BC & AC, before cancer and after chemo. The only thing that was good about chemo was looseing my hair. I have a good head of hair and when it all fell out it sure simplified things. No haircuts, etc.
Coyote calling around here is the pits. I have called 2 daytime cats but the season wasn't open.
I did have a good time deer hunting this fall, got a whitetail and muley.
One does not realize how much fun hunting is until your faced with the fact it may all be over.
My dr. say other then the cancer(gone I hope?) I'am in go shape and with a little luck he'll say goodby in 3 1/2 yrs. and I'll have more days to hunt. Take care, Pedro
