Well, spent the last 6 days hunting. Came back and seen a post on color phase coyotes! Thought maybe you all would like to have a look at this big boy! Killed it at 8:30 this morning. First coyote on film with a blackpowder rifle. Shot him with a power belt being pushed by 90 grains of powder, at 100 yards. He came in on an old strip mine flat that had growed up, nice footage there was a pond behind him, he stoped perfect to a bark and put his front feet up on an old log. Anyway, after reading the post on the color phases, I killed 6 coyotes in 5 days of hunting, and two grey foxes and one nice red fox. Out of all 6 coyotes, this one was the only one that had the color phase diffrence. Very nice pelt. And a big coyote. I think I will have this one taned and keep it. Nice white face and alot of black. This was also the only male I killed.
Havent weighted him yet, anyone want to gess?
By the way im 5'6" tall, for reference on the length of the coyote...I know, I know im short!

Boy, that is a lunker! He must be, what? I'm getting into the realm of the unknown, but if you said 50 pounds, I could believe it.
Good hunting. LB

Yep, 54.6 pounds! The color of this one is what I liked so well, we get a couple in the 50's every year but not this color. Almost looks like a german shepard! Very nice black and white color. I did notice one thing....I dont think I have ever killed a coyote that stunk like this one! I mean none of them smell good but this old male would gag you!!! He was rank!
I said I would never mount a coyote but this one is going to get mounted! The wife had a fit but thats ok, she will get over it! Full body, standing with his front feet on a log. She helped me put him in the bags and get him ready to freeze, and she was gaging something awful...lol

Of the hundreds of coyote pictures I've seen posted on the different predator boards your's has to be right near the top... Awesome size, unique color, and good looking fur. I don't blame you a bit for getting a full body mount. I hope the video footage turns out well.

Rich,
We didnt call this spot. Its a long long walk to get back there and burns up some great calling time to get back there. We were out in the same area though. I did kill one there were we called the last stand! Were we had the fly by to the down wind side. And took another one in the mine field were we called, were we walked threw that tall grass that was over our heads or my head anyway. The footage was awsome! Watched it today! Very nice with the pond in the back ground and the way he stoped and looks right at the camera when he takes the powerbelt! I will haft to edit the tape, I think I said, holly shit look at the size of this coyote and color! I think he will look great in the den, dont you?
Hey Rich...Michele just ask how you been. You left some kind of impresion on her while you were here. She dont ask about to many after there gone!
Byron, Great gess!
Lonny, Thanks! I cant help myself...lol...I haft to get him mounted. No the wife told me on the phone a few min ago she didnt blame me either, she liked the color to! She just didnt like the smell! I told her it wouldnt smell like that when it came back!...lol

keekee,
If you ever want that smell back Rich has a jug of..of...of... well you know. Spray a little of that on him and he'll be ripe as new.
We killed one last winter that looked a lot like that one except the fur looks thicker on yours. He weighed 50 #'s. Here is a couple of pictures of him. Under the florecent lights he looks different. In the second picture you can see his color better. Favors yours quite a bit.

he's the one on the right.

Happy Holidays
Byron
