Arrived in Erie ,Pa. Thurs. evening and drove to Cambridge Springs. Pulled in at 11:00 PM.
Friday, Sat. and Sun. I got great video of Tom Bechdel's approach, stand selection and technique in rain, sleet, and winds that bend the trees at right angles.

Rich,

Don't worry, we are to get a little rain here on Thursday morning, then clear off that night. Friday, Saturday and Sunday it is expected to be clear, calm and have daily highs in the mid 70's.

Good calling weather.

We may not be able to cure your curse this weekend, but I plan on filling it so full of tequila and jalapeños, that it leaves you alone for three days. [Wink]

Tim,
Take it easy on Rich. He's coming to Michigan next week and I plan on dragging him all over the place. We don't want him in to bad of condition.

Rich,
I just looked at the 10 day forecast on weather.com and guess what. Rain on the day you get here! [Mad]
Oh well, they'll probably change it 5 or 6 times by then.

Pound for pound, I think "ole Lucky" could give the Pope a run for his money, kissing all that dirt, while racking up the frequent flier miles.

Listen. The CURSE is real! I don't care how good the hunting is; when Higgy arrives, those coyotes run for cover......in the next county!

I've seen it firsthand. When he gets in his camys and you got your game face on; you might just as well do an interview in the den, and be comfortable.

It's not that he can't hunt coyotes He can; he does great, in his areas.

Think about it. He's been filming these hunts for over a year now. Got some great scenery footage, and no dead coyotes? Maybe a couple?

I think maybe it's Tyler? He's the one with the MOJO . [Smile]

Good hunting. LB

Are you saying I should bring the calls and the gun for show, but leave the bullets at home? [Confused] [Roll Eyes]

I don't think it's just the rain factor. I was to be a part of this party last year and the mere fact that we tentatively set a date for Rich to come here was enough to launch me into the worst year of calling I've ever endured. Luckily, I managed to put all thoughts of cameras and videos out of my mind and have managed to call a good number of coyotes doing depredation work this summer. My ego can't afford another dive like that again. I was "that" close to addiction counseling to help me find another "hobby". [Wink]

Keekee, I figured out a way to put my segment in without Rich having to spend much more than twenty bucks. Right now, you can see it under, "Day After Tomorrow", but we'll just slip the tidal wave footage in there with a few subliminal spots of me blowing on a call in a carwash. Immediately afterwards, I'll have a short segment of me standing by the truck, soaked to the skin, talking about how rough the Kansas weather was on our hunt. Bwahahahaha! Lance, consider this. Right now, it's been raining for over two days, straight. Tonight will be the heaviest.

I'm leaving for southwestern Arizona Thursday morning, (where Rich will be) and our weather always moves in that direction.

We are looking at the strong possibility of a real miserable soaker, thanks to ole Higgy.

Leaky tent, no cards, three days of stupid war stories, cabin fever, and a lynchin'....not a jury in the world would convict us.

Shucks, you guys feel bad for the wrong guy.
Since this video isn't a snuff flick I really don't care if we see any critters in front of us or not. .The purpose is to profile the subjects personality, his philosophy toward calling, stand selection, approach and technique on stand, the terrain and cover that he contends with in his area. I've met and hunted with some really terrific guys and seen some beautiful country. When I left for Pa. this last time it was 99 degrees here and I felt weird packing my thermal underwear. It was kinda nice sitting on stand in the sleet. Some of the subjects understand what I want but naturally would like to put some numbers in front of the camera. They are usually disappointed when I drive up to their door leading a storm front.

That's an interesting approach to a coyote-calling video: Discussion and demonstration of technique but no presentation of proof of concept.
That's gutsy.
I like it.

Jay,

Why don't you post that picture of the mark of the Higgin's curse? So that if others see him coming they can recognize it in time to take shelter.

Duncan, the guys that are appearing on this video are among the best of the best in their areas. Some are big names, others are not quite as well-known outside their part of the country. Their longevity and accomplishments are "proof of concept". They really don't need a few more coyotes in front of my camera as validation.
That damn camera of Jay's is like a medical probe.

I hear you talking, Higgy. But, for me, sitting under a bush in 100º temperatures, I'd like to dust a few critters, while I'm about it. I agree, to this extent; it's not for validation.

Good hunting. LB

edit: on the other hand, you could film in a parking lot.

Funny story: I took a guy out on a night hunt once. I was explaining the procedure in fine detail, working the light and intended to have him shoot a paper plate that I had set up. I wanted to see if he could get on target quickly, and shoot when I told him to. I worked the light as if I was making an actual stand, with sound, everything. On about the third sweep, as I was talking, here comes a gray fox right toward the plate. I kept talking and coached him into getting on the animal, but I never let on that this had become more than just an exercise. It worked perfect, I guided him onto the eyes and made sure he was ready and told him to shoot...."blam" animal runs off! There he goes! There what goes? There goes your fox. What fox? Never mind. [Roll Eyes]

He said he shot the plate; never saw an animal, despite nodding his head, the whole time. Retrieved plate; no hole. Time out.

Epilogue: we killed four animals that night, his first cat, first fox and first night time coyote. I think he learned more than if we had shot paper plates all night.

Who is that guy in the pic? .....And what is he drinking?....lol

Higgy, you maybe cursed but it still has to be fun to run all around the country and hunt with all of us and get to see all the diffrent areas! Even if you get wet all the time, and the wind blows 30 mph, and then it gets 90 deg and humid!

Still think your jinxed though!

Hey cdog....sounds like your one up on all of us with your plan! Thats some good thinking!

It's called hunting in the East. You Western guys are spoiled. I read in posts of guy's calling in 11 coyotes from one stand, another who called in 21 coyotes in one hour. You guys are used to hunting in a desert with lots of wild dogs It takes a year for us to shoot what you can in a day. Your years rain equals a weeks rain in the east. Right away you strike out and want to burn somebody at the stake. [Wink]

Well I looked ahead for Michigan's Weather and it's calling for Rain Friday when Rich will be here with us. Too far in advance for Saturday but I have my Gor-tex out and inflatable raft ready.

Still wonder why there has not been a how to call in the east video yet?? Nobody could keep the film dry.

Rich Don't forget the scuba tank. I'm sure we will need fresh air in the drowned cow/sheep pastures of Yellerdogs. I've seen them first hand when it was dry and frozen. [Roll Eyes]

Skinner 2

Ps Our coyotes have webbed feet. [Big Grin] and we have to shoot them with steel shot. [Wink] .

Hey Ron,
Glad to see you here!
I got it all figured out. Next week I'm going to sacrifice the kids two sheep to appease the rain gods. Sunshine shall be abundant! [Smile] I will then sacrifice a cat or two of my wife's for the wind gods. Asking them for a light NW breeze, that will favor my preferred spots.
If the coyotes are not coming to the calls we can stop back by the house and sacrifice some ducks and rabbits to appease the coyote gods and all will be well! [Big Grin]

Oh, so much for the sheep idea, I forgot I was saving them for you and Rich if you get lonely. We only have the two after all. [Wink]

Welcome to the New Huntmasters, skinner 2. Glad to have you on board.

I hear you talking; now. Let's see how much you defend him, after your hunt. You might be the one with the gasoline, or a rope over the nearest branch. The curse is real.

Good hunting. LB

11 coyotes from one stand, 21 coyotes in an hour? Them westerners are all BS. Nobody believes that stuff....except easterners. [Smile]
