I have never had much luck with calling in the wind. Do you stay away from calling when the wind is up?

I can only get out every so often, so I will call in the wind if I have to. I don't like it and am not as successful, but I try anyway. A loud open reed call helps.
If I was able to go whenever I wanted, I'd stay home and reload ammo or something on windy days.

I can think of several places where the wind howls, constantly. If any of you have been through Palm Springs, you might be aware of the windy area, since it is covered with wind generators? I know a couple others.

You just have to alter your technique and depend on the sound reaching out, mainly downwind. The lucky part is that the velocity tends to mix up your scent and the called coyotes are not circling as much as they just happen to be located in that direction. I think the wind dilutes your scent, above a certain MPH, and the coyotes display less concern, until they can get a visual? Just a theory.

Good hunting. LB

The wind blows here most of the time, at night its just something we haft to deal with.

One thing that helps is you just haft to hunt diffrent, you haft to get right down in there with them! I mean get right in the cover with them! I get as close to the area I think there holded up in, with out pushing my luck. I also change my set ups a little and go with a call that will reach out there and do more howling to.

I dont let the wind keep me from hunting!

Brent
