I fellow I know well says that he called in and shot a coyote. Not unusual, what is hard to belive is that that he had already called in and shot and wounded this coyote about ten minutes earlier. Ever heard of such a thing? Will try and get the whole story and report back.

Could be the Coyote had Alzhelmer's. Either that are he thought about it , And got pissed.

Last year or the year before I had something similar happen. I called in a coyote and when I took the shot I saw fur fly big time and the coyote jumped a bit and ran down into a low spot. He could have easily gotten out of the jam by staying low and heading out so all I could think to do was Ki Yi and I’ll be damned if he didn’t come blowing back out of the hole right at me. I started barking and hooting and hollering but it was no good the coyote had me pegged and was coming at a run. When he got with in about 40 yards he was too far below me to get a shot prone so I quickly slid up to a kneeling position and the coyote hit the skids and bounced sideways a couple of times with his head held low and hackles up. I missed. LOL but I did pick him up on the third shot just as he leveled out topping a small hill.
The first shot took about a 16-inch swath from the edge of his neck across his back and only cut him in one spot about an inch long. No one was pulling for that poor SOB.

I fell off of a ladder once. I was so mad and embarrassed, he first thing I did was slam the ladder back up against the house. I ran right back up the thing. A min. or two later, the adrenaline quit, I started shaking, the lights went real bright, and I almost died the second time around. So what happened to the coyote? LOL

Well this is the story behind the question. This actually happened to me. If I didn’t have a witness I wouldn’t be telling you about this. My friend Rob and I where out calling new territory we came across a good looking spot. We where able to set-up in a brush pile and we where about a hundred yards from the cover we wanted to call.
I started of with a lone howl and brush lit up we guessed about five different coyotes where there. The good thing about it was that they where scattered. I asked Rob “how many shells do you have?” “three” came the reply. “You shoot the first one I’ll shoot the second one. Then you can take what ever is left”, I told him. I then used a rabbit distress sound within 1 min. out comes a coyote running towards us. Stopped it with a bark, Rob shot it. I immediately howled again, lone howl. Received some howls in reply. Immediately used the rabbit distress again. Within a min. had another one charging in Rob stopped Him. I shot down he went. Oops! He is back up and running away I take another hasty shot and miss Rob can’t fire because if he does he would his muzzle would be to close to my face. I get back on the howler and do some coyote distress cries as there is more in the bush and we can deal with this fellow later. After the distress cries I go back to the rabbit, the coyote I just shot starts barking and howling at us I continue with the rabbit and throw in some challenge howls . A coyote pops out of the bush two hundred yards away Rob takes aim and drops her. I make coyote distress cries. About six minutes have passed. Shortly after this a coyote starts barking at us from the bush. The coyote I wounded is still carrying on barking and howling at us. The coyote continues to bark at us from the brush I try copy it, barking and challenging it. Finally we can see it’s head, barking and carrying on at us. Rob tries to get on it to get a shot, but we can only see it’s head the rest is behind a snow drift. I keep calling it look like it might come so Rob waits hoping for a better shot finally it makes a move, but it is the wrong way for us. It disappears and we never see it again. It just sits back and barks at us, another on joins in from further away. The one I shot is still making noise. I keep trying every thing I can think of except to be quite. Rob joins in with his howler. So we have the two of us challenging, lone howls, distress cries. About ten minutes have passed by now. All of a sudden we notice that the one that I had wounded's howling has changed tone and became more aggressive and louder. We figure another coyote had come upon the scene and was willing to take a round out of what ever was making all the racket. I immediately challenge and answer with coyote distress cries. We look out and see a coyote charging in from 300 yards away. It runs by the coyote Rob shot earlier missing it by about five yards on the down wind side. He doesn’t care he is pissed and he is going to deal with what ever is making all the racket. I line up on him. “Rob” I say “ it’s the coyote I shot earlier it side is all bloody.” “No way” he reply's. The coyote is about eighty yards away and shows no sign of stopping so Rob barks. I shoot the coyote drops and stays there. We keep calling as there is still at least two more in the bush. After a couple of minutes we give up as we feel that we have done about all that we can. We spent a total of fourteen minutes on that stand.
We got up and checked the last coyote that I had shot and sure enough, this coyote had two holes in him . The first shot had entered the front of his chest and exited just behind the front leg (he was facing me when I shot). There was about a two-inch square hole there. There is no doubt that this was the coyote that I had shot earlier on.
Amazing but true.

That's amazing. Maybe all the other coyotes sticking around and making noise restored his confidence ("yeah that hurt like hell, but if they ain't running, then I ain't either). I once broke off a Bass, retied with a different color lure and threw out and caught the same bass and got my first lure back. Then a couple years later I broke of a Big bass fishing with a live frog in a golf course pond. Tied on a bare hook to try to snag the line which was still floating on the pond surface. I figured maybe I could hand-over-hand it and still pull him in. When the bare hook broke the surface of the water the same bass sucked it in and I got him and got back my first rig. Suicidal critters.

Leonard it was a 22-250 with the 55 gr sierra game king bullet. It must of just skinned along the rib cage and then came out.

Thanks for the story Albert. I've seen plenty shot like that and left, but so far nun came back. If you shoot and hunt much you'll see all kinds of stuff happen. It could be that is pissed him off and he came back. Coyotes do strange things sometimes.
