Leonard,
Well my uncle has a 30-06AI and is building a 6mmAI. So that got me wanting a custom gun. I remember talking to you about your 25-06 AI some time back and was wanting your opinion on it. I was thinking of getting SharpShooters Supply to send me a 25-06 AI Douglas barrel, new stock, and trigger for my Savage 110 25-06. How does the AI differ from the factory chamber. I'm shooting a Nosler 85gr BST right now and getting somewhere around 3500 + or -. What were you getting out of yours and what bullet and powder did yours like?
Thanks,
Justin

Curiously, I never tried any 85 grain bullets. I have a 75 V-Max load that chronos 3950 with 57 grains of #2700.
But, my main load is a 96.5 grain Starke and 57.0 grains of R-22 @ 3650fps.
This is a standard config. 40º Ackley shoulder with a tight neck.
I don't know? Some people snear, but I like the cartridge, it has done some impressive things for me.
Good hunting. LB

You can shoot what you like Leonard and not get castigated huh:) Interestingly; the 25-06 Imp was one old P.O. himself claimed, never really met his expectations as so many of his other improved creations did? My brother uses one, great shooter, he took his second bull elk this year with it.

Yeah, I remember your brother, Vic.
I figured he would be happy with that cartridge, there's just something about it. As you may be aware, I've had three, and yes they are fully capable of dumping large elk and the occasional mustang.
Gosh, it must be embarassing to admit that your own brother shoots such a cannon?
Oh, before I forget. Yes, P.O. was rather critical of the 25'06 Improved....BUT, he didn't have the powders we have available, today. And, that makes a lot of difference.
Good hunting. LB
PS, I remember recommending R-22 to you, for your brother, quite a while back. I hope he liked it?

Little brother loves his rifle/cartridge Leonard. Yes, he did switch to RL 22. He's taken three Az Coues bucks and two bull elk with that rifle. He took a lot of flack from his other hunting buddies about using the 25 for elk, but I guess he is vindicated now:) His is set up on a Ruger action, Shilen stainless barrel and McMillan syn stock, topped of with a Leupold 4-14X50 scope......nice rig. He followed my lead and had a little T/C carbine set up in 17 ackley hornet for coyotes, so I give him a pass for shooting the big boomers:)

Yeah, "nice rig!" Little brother knows how to build a decent hunting rifle. Makes sense, to me. LB
