this is my first post here!i hadn't tested this bullet on fur yet due to some knee problems. my knee finally felt well enough to do a little coyote calling this morning. the first stand turned out to be the most productive. about 10 minutes and 30 seconds in to the call a coyote popped up at about 110 yards. placing the crosshairs on the middle of it's chest the tactical 20 gently nudged my shoulder. the coyote went disappeared at the crack of the 20, reappearing about 50 yards farther out. the next cartridge jammed in the chamber opening. the coyote disappear over the ridge about 175 yards out. after dislodging the shell the foxpro was switched to a female whimpering in an attempt to lure the coyote back. suddenly it reappeared and was coming hard right at the foxpro. at about 55 yards it spotted me and tried to exit with the speed of an f-14 on afterburners. the tactical barked again, this time the coyote rolled to a stop like and old dodge duster with bad brakes. the skid ended about 25 feet from where it was shot, not even a twitch. scowering the horizon about 100 yards out a coyote was spotted. it was all humped up and acting funny and not to steady of foot. it was the original coyote, there had been two not one. the coyote had been hit in the nose just above the mouth, breaking the lower jaw. the coyote had been flopping around just on the other side of a small ridge. a second shot took her thru the lungs, hunt over. i did take some pictures of the exit wounds ( a little bloody) that i will post, both bullets exited. the 20 tactical was loaded with 25.5 gr of 10x for a velocity of 4125
the exit hole 50 yards. the end of my shooting stix will just fit the hole. this is the female shot at 100+ yards. this is the exit wound, it's about the size of a silver dollar.

Welcome to the New Huntmasters, foxhunter. Glad to have you on board. Nice pics.
So, what do you think? Of the twenty and of the V-Max? Those do look like "southwest" dogs, wherever that may be?
Good hunting. LB

the jury is still out on the 32's but the 33 were excelent. it could be they thickend the jacket on the 32's. i had no exits prior to switching to the 32's. yes those are sw coyotes, more like west texas but not quite.

Nice pictures!
Would a person expect to see more damage from the 40gr Vmax in .224 at 4000+ per second. Or how about the new 35gr in .224?
Sorry about the off topic!

Greenside,
I tried the 35 Vmax a few years ago in my .223 I gave it up after having several splashes and a few run off.
It just didn't penetrate out of my rifle.

greenside, i would expect to have large entrance holes rather than exit from the 40 gr vmaxes. the 35 gr bullets were designed for the hornet and are to lightly constructed for the velocities you are talking about. i measured the 32 gr and 33 gr 20 caliber bullets and the jacket weighed the same on both. the 33 gr jacket is .022 longer and probably thinner in the nose area. this could account for the 33 being a little more explosive and not exiting.

From the shots I have made with the 33gr v-max I found that I thought I would like them to penetrate an inch or two farther. I tried the 36 gr Berger on a couple red fox and was happy with the holes compared to the 33 gr v-max. Has anyone shot coyotes with the Berger? I am ready to try them, the coyotes are laying low due to the waves of weather coming and going. I haven't seen one for ten days or more. More snow today, tomorrow, maybe this weekend will be better.
