Everyone;
I am interested in how you approach calling coyotes in the big pines of northern AZ?
I've set up on many logging road clearing and some clear cut areas but with no results.
I am just curious as to how you approach the big woods... It could be that people stick to the cedars and pinyon pines versus the big woods.
Thank you for your valuable time and thoughts.

That's how I feel about it.
There is no doubt they pass through thaat forest stuff, but I don't like to hunt it.
If you ever hunted forest, at night, you would really get the idea of how restricting it is. Nothing but trees, and where they aren't, you have shadows, that's the big drawback. And, the visibility isn't a whole lot better in the daytime.
But, I just don't think they are that concentrated in trees. I've seen the prints, and they run large, but I have not had a lot of luck in that type of cover. Gimme the piņon pines, any day.
Good hunting. LB

Norm; have you ever watched the video put together by Fred Cronk and his buddy? "Callers of the Wild" is the title. If you havent seen it, or don't have it, I can shoot you my copy. They do some hunting up in the very country your talking about. I don't remember if they give any specific hints as to hunting that type terain, but it was interesting video of called coyotes in the Arizona timber.

About 1/3 of my state is big timber.The only time I hunt thick timber is when the ground is covered in snow.If the coyote moves it can be seen.

The only luck I've had with coyotes in big timber is while deer hunting. So try hunting deer and see how you do with the yotes.
