I've never been to Arizona, but I am planning on visiting the area of Show Low in the spring. What is the coyote hunting like in the area year around ?

Barry,
Show Low is a beautiful part of Az. High elevation,Ponderosa forest all around(note: used to be forest as alot of it was burned when the Rodeo fire almost took the town). To the east and north from Show Low to Springerville is your best chance to call a coyote. High prarie type habitat, with cattle ranches, rolling hills, and very open country. It gets alot of pressure from callers though and the closer you get to Springerville, the worse the calling gets. There is a G-man hunter and trapper that pretty much keeps the population low there. There has not been any pups raised in northern Az. for the last couple of years, so expect low coyote numbers all over. Pup populations are running at about 6%, when they should be around the 60% level during the fall. There are areas with higher pup numbers, but it is spotty at best. The good news is bobcat populations are up and will continue as long as coyote numbers remain low. Work the brush and rocks and target the cats. But remember, bobcat season ends March 31
FWIW

I have hunted the Sholow area. It can be real good. I don't know about the very latest coyote conditions, since it is quite a ways for me, and I don't get there regularly.

But, I agree with what Steve said; it's a damn good cat area.

Good hunting. LB
