A couple of weekends ago I found a badger hole while I was hunting. Actually, I found the badger running toward its hole. He had about 80 yards or so to go when I pulled over and grabbed my rifle. Moments before I was ready, he dove into the hole.
Now for the issue at hand. I would like to go set up and call that critter out of his hole and murderify 'im. Any suggestions? What time of day etc.? I don't know much about badgers but my Mexican boyz say that they make excellent chicharones!!!

I'd be surprised if he were still home. My impression and that's all it is; is that they are nomadic and don't have a regular den. I have also heard that a badger can outdig two men with shovels trying to dig him out. So, if true?
Badgers are the hardest predator to call, hunt, kill, etc. You can never tell what might interest them. They will not travel very far to answer a call. Most of the time, they will only look your way. A few times, I have had badgers come to the call, but mostly, I think they might have just been walking my way, and not particularly interested in a rabbit call.
If you do get lucky, and you set up, and he's in the hole you think he's in..... then all you may get from him is a pop up. Of course, he may do this several times, and maybe not for very long, so it pays to have the crosshairs on the hole, at least once you determine he is in there. And, don't discount him popping up somewhere else.
Be warned, my expertise is rather limited. In over thirty some years, I've taken about a dozen, total, so my advice is not the best, that's for sure!
Good luck, LB

Thanks Leon'. I was told by a knucklehead that I am S.O.L. on this one. I'll take your advise and chase the pheasants I saw o'er yonder.

Locohead,
Set a 220 Conibear over the hole and come back in the morning.
If you are hell bent on shooting him, take him out of the trap and prop him up against a bush.

I prefer dynamite.
Just kidding! But I do have badger problems. I have a little trapline going and have caught 3 badgers so far. They totally demolish a set, so you get to pull your stuff and move it. I have a few flagged bobcat sets and badgers love them.
