Riddle: who can this be?
Folks, I was browsing my own site for the first time since I last updated it 2 years ago. I came across some pictures that you may appreciate. Pictures that can count against the integrity of some people on this board, people of whom the names will not be mentioned. Not quite hot porn, but controversial in a way.
My question is: aren't first league predator callers supposed to be so loyal to the sport of predator calling that all other things are subsided? Well, have a look at this link and decide for yourselves if it has any black-mailing potential.

I had to make some decisions. I'm not wealthy, I have a wife to support, work...all the usual stuff.
But, when I decided to go to the DARK CONTINENT , I had not planned it for a long time, didn't have a huge slush fund for expenses, travel, etc.
I knew that I didn't want to try to cram a bunch of trophys into a relatively short period of time. Besides, I wanted to take the wife, and treat a good portion of the trip as your average tourist couple.
Even so, as far as animals, I could have hunted at least twice as many, as I did. But numbers didn't mean very much to me, even though the one's that I did get were not particularly rare or expensive, or record book animals. (a couple actually might be?)
Then too, I had planned on hunting predators, primarily at night, and there was considerable traveling time between venues. Thirteen days is not a lot of time to fit in so many animals. Therefore, I didn't kill a whole lot of plains game, and not a a lot of predators, either. It was off-season. We deliberately took our time, and just enjoyed the scenery, the atmosphere, etc.
Because of the expense, I had my heads done simply and cheaply as "european skull mounts" which to me, were sort of exotic, since I didn't have any, and my den is not very big, so a lot of shoulder mounts would be difficult to find wall space, for them.
The only shoulder mount I did was the black wildeebeast, and that's another thing. They don't use fibreglass, this mount weighs a ton, (don't know what's in it?) and it was by far the heaviest item in my collection, and the air freight charges were substantial, at least by my pocketbook standards: $1300~
But I had some things (mementos) made, a zebraskin drum, a hunting knife with warthog handles, fly swatter made from the tail, and the whole skins, which I have scattered on the floor as throw rugs. I kind of like the idea of these odd trophys, gives the whole room an exotic look, with the bead curtain hanging in the doorway.
It's the only room I where I have some control of content, my little fiefdom, so to speak. But, as goes African trophy rooms, it is extremely modest, believe me.
Next time, I will have a specific shopping list, and the same attitude, and (again) more than likely, a limited budget. Could be worse, eh?

What a great website, I looked all over, I never wanted to hunt in Africa... but now I do. ![[Wink]](wink.gif)
I have also been wondering about you.
I remember you saying you were taking up hand calling for predators, and I was wondering how that's been working for you?
I make an open reed handcall with a somewhat unique sound, that I feel is very easy to play.
I have recently decided to close up shop, and I have a few calls I have yet to finish.
When I do finish them, I would like to send you one, to use in your pursuits, if you'd like.
That way if I ever do go back into business I can say my calls are used "across the globe" lol!
It actually would be cool, to know someone was hunting with one on The Dark Continent!

Let me tell you guys that Leonard was only a pleasure to have as a client. My biggest fear as experienced hunter though inexperienced guide is to end up with a client that needs his diapers changed, or can't shoot straight, or demands entertainment outside of my social and ethical norms, or insists on SCI top ten trophy size judgement on 300 yards, or demands exquisite cuisine with French wine, or …….. Leonard and Nancy were easy (and forgiving!)
Hear this one: we went for a night drive together with a truck-full of tourists in the "big five" Kruger National Park. They got issued with spot lamps (bright white light!) and were swinging these in all directions. Here I was, the great African PH, trying to show his client and wife the big cats from this platform of stupid city dwellers! Leonard found it hard not to interfere. ![[Mad]](mad.gif)
