I was recently hunting with a couple of knuckleheads. At break time, one of the knuckleheads told me and the other. "You guys have got to see how well this magical mist works. It just barely taints the air enough for the coyotes to get confused. See, I'll just go over here about 15 feet or so up wind and spray a little so you guys can get a whiff." The knucklehead next to me, suggested that the mist-maker move a tad over to the left so we will be more directly down wind for a better sniff. So I stick my head and neck way forward, straining just to get a whiff of the tainted air. Next thing you know, my face, mouth, eyes, everything are drenched with Leon's Magic Mist. EEEEEEEEwwwwwwyuck!!!! Gross! Yuck, Yuck, YUCK!!! [Confused]

Wait 'til you score with it. The next time you dump a coyote standing it it, downwind; you will think it smells pretty.

Breathing Magic Mist is not advisable, although I have ingested it on occasions too numerous to count....and it hasn't hurt me; yet. [Razz]

Now Loco, knucklehead number one was at least, ohhhhh, twenty yards away from you. To clarify the sequence of events properly, I first opened the bottle and asked if either of them could smell the pee from where I was standing. They replied in the negative. I reattached the top and sprayed one (maybe ten) good sprays at about eye level. If memory serves me right, Q watched the pattern carry on the wind and I think he was diving for cover long before Danny's eyes started waterin'. Needless to say, Danny can now attest to the strength and effectiveness of Leonard's Magic Mist. BTW, I dilute mine 1:4, pee:water, abd it'll still peel paint.

On second thought, Danny, as I re-read this thread, it's becoming increasingly obvious that you're accusing me of partaking in certain hijinks while hunting. After all, here I've gone and claimed to have taken you "prisoner" and subjected you to interrogation at the hands of Q (it's the hat, man), I've stood by and derived personal entertainment from watching you snag your low-slung crotch on an electric fence (that was funny...), and now you're telling everybody that I purposely sprayed coyote pee in your mouth, all under the guise of showing you a new fangled way to dupe coyotes. Well, I never!!!!! Anybody else wanna see how this Magic Mist works? Here, stand right there.... [Smile]

I will admit the wind has changed directions a few times on me.The mist does not have the same effect on me as coyotes.

The spray top jogged loose on a full pint bottle of "mist" on the hunt this weekend. One full pint of pee soaked into the carpet of my Bronco. Anyone know of a good and effective scent remover?

Rich, I am not aware of anything.

I don't know if any of the enzyme products designed for skunk odor would work or not ... luckily, it is warm enough you can drive with the windows down and hopefully it will air out...

I havn't done the stuff since I was a kid. But once, I spilled a bong all over my mom's car. We went into the department store and got little perfume samples and spilled those too, directley on top of the stinky water. It smelled like poop but it hid the smell! [Big Grin]

A good method for removing skunk odor and spray is: The hottest water you can stand and dawn dish washing liquid. It is very effective in breaking down grease and oil which is what the skunk spray is mostly made up of. Try it on Leonard's magic mist, it might have the same effect.

I either need to get a longer torso or a shorter lanyard because 'bout the time the four cups of coffee I rented made a re-appearance, I ended up inadvertantly watering my howler. Oops. Too many layers of clothes to be able to look down. Left it in the truck after that. [Smile]

BTW, did you get me a PA coyote to tan yet?

OK Rich, I got it...

I have been looking, and looking through old farmer's almanacs since I saw your post. (I knew I had seen it there)
I found mention of a cleaner to remove hydrogen sulfide gas from waste gasses in laboritories.
In the article it says, it also works very good to remove "thiols" the class of oils the scent the sprays of felines, like skunks.

I imagine that is the main constituent of the scent in coyote/rabbit urines... if not it's worth a shot anyway.

Here is the recipe they list for washing pets, I bet it'd work on carpets;

1 quart 3% hydrogen peroxide (from a drug store)
1/4 cup baking soda (sodium bi-carbonate)
and 1 teaspoon liquid soap

It says to "work the solution well into the fur".
(I'd test it on a floormat or some out of sight spot first, in case of bleaching, but I doubt there's enough peroxide to do any)

The vacuum at the car wash, and a gallon of distilled water, might be just the way to clean it up.

I also wonder if this might be good stuff to wash furs with to remove the coyote funk?

I hope this helps, let us know how it turns out.

Jeff, I tried your formula, it was very similar to one that was posted on one of the other boards some time ago. I used Crow Woman's suggestion of Dawn Liquid Soap. It took two applications and some scrubbing. After it dried I sprayed some vanilla extract on it and it smells great.
Thanks for the heads up. I printed and filed the formula. It works!

A Vet told me that one time when we were talking about how he deals with dogs that are brought in and have been srayed by skunks. He told me it's safe for anything or anyone. I never thought of adding peroxide to the mix though. I would be afraid of bleaching the color of the fabric?
