The last couple of weeks I've been in a calling slump. I got up early this morning and decided to try a new ranch I picked up this summer. Loaded up the Purple Swift and off we go.
First set delivered a covey of mosquitoes. Not exactly what we're after. Second set was almost given up on. After 25 minutes of calling I was about to get up when an old dog came over a hill right at me in a lazy trot. Swift 1 Yote 0. Next set produced an eager young dog. Swift 2 yote 0.
Starting to warm up and figure time for one more set. Walking down a fence line I smell a foul stench and see a dead cow. This has to be good.
I start blowing on the Tally Ho and look at the watch, 9:50am. Movement to my right and I swing around , hmmm a cat. He is about to wind me so I go for the shot. 180 yards and the Swift does it's part. Look at the watch 9:59am.

Ronnie, you got me going on that one. I forgot to mention that the Swift also had a little feral hog action too. It was a great morning.
Fur was set on the big dog and cat. Young dog still had some growing but looked pretty good. Cat is in the freezer, probably sell it to a taxidermist or to someone that needs a mount.

On another subject, I read a post about illumunated optics for use in night hunting.
Well, I used a regular reticle for years. On occasion I would loose the reticle due to various factors associated with night hunting. That's when I wen't with the Trijicon 3X9X56 (no longer made or available except used) with the radioactive tritium elements. It's been almost 18 years and their still glowing.
I can choose red, amber or green reticles. Red tends to be too dim, green tends to be too bright but the amber works like a charm. I never have a problem picking up the reticles at night with that scope. Troy used to give me hell for making long range head shots with it all the time but I always thought it was more fun or challenging that way.
You and I've hunted......did I miss many of them?

lol. Yes it works, I think I've even used it a couple times myself. Frank, we are going to be heading to Montana and South Dakota in about a week, try to call before that ok.
