"Movement. The subject of another thread, all by itself. Just as some feel that camo is overrated, others think that movement is overrated. All I can say about that is; I turn my head, when it suits me. Staring straight ahead, you will miss animals, standing there, needing reinforcement; or a bullet. Whatever works, right?"
I took this rookie with me calling one time. I lent him my rifle and told him to be very, very still. He was. It was very cold and he was wearing a camo jacket with a pull-over hood. When he heard a coyote coming, he turned his head to look at it. All he saw was the inside of his jacket hood. LOL I do think the hood concealed his movement though.

Early this morning on dove stand, I got bored because not many were flying. Anticipating this, I had brought my call bag along. I took out the Al Lux long ranger and gave my most pityful jack I could, then shut up. About 4 minutes later, a coyote breaches the hill in front of me about 200 yards away. I lip squeak but I don't think it can hear me. So I get out Kevins squeaker and rip off a few tunes. That gets him trotting down the hill. Now I've got a dilemma. I'm using a 20ga with low-base 7 1/2 shot. No camo, sitting behind a bush, and using hand calls. Like I've even got a chance. But FATE stepped in and made the decision for me. As I turned to look at 3 dove coming in, the coyote saw me move and lit out for the horizon. But I got a double on the dove! ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

I TOLD YOU THERE'D STILL BE DOVES OUT AND ABOUT! Sounds like you went traditional on those birds. Did you limit out?

Lone Howl, that was no YOY either. He looked to be in good fur as well. Now he's a little smarter, too.
Danny, I came close to a limit (12). You should'a BEAN there! I found such a cool spot. I hunted Kali style, and then I hunted Colo style. And I walked my a$$ off! I didn't think I was capable of that much walking. I need some gel pads for my boots!

What's the longest a coyote has spotted one of you guys? Me pretty far away. Movement busted me.
Just as I raised the binos,he about jumped out of his skin. jerryboy

Jerry, one busted me at over 300 yards last March. He came up behind me on a hill where he wasn't supposed to and had the sun in his favor. He sat on top of that hill and just watched me. Wouldn't come down for anything. Yep, I educated him, especially when I tried to squeeze a bullet thru the brush he was sitting in.

Anyone think they can see the bino lenses? Think they would be noticable at say... 400 yds or beyond? jerryboy

I came upon a couple of really shy coyotes 2 yrs ago in AZ. We were driving to a spot and saw some movement out on the plain. It was easily 1/2 mile or better. We stopped and took a look with the binocs. They stopped and looked back. As soon as we got out of the truck, they lit the afterburners and disappeared. Their vision is unbelieveable!

Before this gets too far away from my theory, I would like to clarify that I was thinking of gentle head movement when using a remote electronic call.
Yeah, movement is movement and coyotes are almost as good as cats at picking up on movement.
But. When their focus is on sound coming from a device placed thirty yards from your location, I believe you can get away with a little movement.
Hand caling; you need pauses, and good fortune.
Good hunting. LB

One of my favorite spots,I approached one morning.
I has taken a trail because they were starting to watch a old mining road that I normally use and had busted me the day before.
I made it there and sat for a few minutes.
I raised my binos and seen one,a smaller one mousing in the field at least 800 yards away. I use 16x binos and I thought I was safe. I watched him for a few minutes hoping he would mouse over my way. He suddenly froze as he looked at me.
I thought "be still!" He stared for a while like he was scanning.Wind was in my face.No way he could catch a whiff.
Just as I thought he was gonna forget about it.He bolted! HAHA!
There was snow flying from his feet LOL.
Ever seen a coyote try to catch up with his own a$$? HAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
He seen me for sure. And it was way across a flatts. Maybe he knew my spot?
I am a bit habbitual. But still, he seen me.
Full body camo, full gun camo, sitting still a few feet back in the tree line.Had to be the binos.
