Went out callin' this past Sunday to some ranches I have access to in the Simla/Calhan area of Eastern Colorado. Called in a total of 7 to within' shooting distance! Best I've ever done...didn't actually manage to KILL any, but I'm working on that!

Hey Dawgkilla,
I may be out your way around the week preceding Thanksgiving (16-23). I've been invited to come whack a few coyotes up around Salida for some elk outfitters. Hopefully, sh*t won't happen too bad and I can get away for a couple days about then.

You must have a few coyotes out your way. I e/m'd the DoW and asked them what I needed as a non-resident to kill your coyotes in that area and the guy answered me back, "$40 small game license and lots of bullets." [Smile]

Hey Chris!!!! Where you frijole??? Where you bean?

Lance, it would be my pleasure to be your guide for the day. You can howl 'em, I can cry to 'em and I will let you shoot 'em, and I will shoot you with my zoom. I've got a ranch where I am the only caller and its super productive around that time of year!!!!! I can save it for you if you give me a writing lesson. [Wink] Its also a secret, but I will be glad to share it with an out-of-towner!!!!

I tell ya Cdog, with the rain and abundance of food, the 'yotes are thick this year. Maybe the three of us (You, me and Loco) can hook up for some callin' when you're out here.

Marc you really gonna be movin' out here or are you just teasin' me?

Marc, if you need a place to flop for a few days my guest room is at your disposal. The Springs is nice and houses are cheap(er) right now.

Cdog911, let me know what yer plans look like and we'll see what happens. Always willing to go blast some dawgs and if you want some company out in Salida, I can be there from my house in about 90 min!

Danny, how you doing? Got enough video to make your own hunting tape yet?

Chris, thanks man! Appreciate it.
I have been checking out CO Springs on the web, housing, jobs etc. When I went thru there last year it looked pretty neat.Even my wife liked it. The only other place she liked was Flagstaff AZ.
She likes her job here, thats the only thing really keepin us here [Roll Eyes]
We may be making a couple recon trips out there. [Big Grin]

p.s. Dawgkilla,

Weekdays are mucho better for me if you'd like to get out soon. Whenever I pass up Last Chance on my way East, I think of you. I haven't gained permission out there (haven't even tried) but I have seen coyotes right behind the church on the left on my way East!

give me a jingle if you've got the time.

Marc,
I am serious, if you need a place to flop let me know. Got a king size bed in my downstairs bedroom if you need it. I can also hook you up with a good buyer's representative (realtor couple friends of ours, Scott & Denise Fortune) who will show you the town if you like, no charge.

Danny, I may be lookin' fer work again soon, so weekdays are pretty bad for me, I try and get out every Sunday to call. Let me know if you get some free time.

Cdog911, you have mail.

Dawg, I was looking at the DOW "hunter success" numbers and they show the 2002 kill count for coyotes in Elbert Co. as being 1,694. The big winner was Montrose Co. with 11,995 reported coyote kills. Of course, they don't report how those numbers were attained, i.e. helicopter, poison, trapping, or recreational hunters. However, the numbers are impressive.

Hey there NASA, forgot you were a Front Range caller now. How ya doin'? I don't know WHERE they get those numbers and I don't know of any place I can log my kills. Be nice if the DOW web site had a place for hunters to enter info like that.

Went out this past Sunday to scout the unit I drew for deer (118) and get some rancher permissions. Got access to three ranches for coyote/deer and called in one dawg...kinda.
He held up at 400 yards and wouldn't come any closer. Saw several just walking down dirt roads too!
Fall/Winter calling should be AWESOME!

Take care.

Dawg, you know that little space on your license where your "HIP" number goes? Well, they get your mailing address and send you a form for reporting your "kills". If you don't have a HIP #, better get one. If you ever get checked by a warden and you don't have one, it's the same fine as hunting without a license. [Eek!]

I'm legal, got a HIP number and everything...but have NEVER gotten anything in the mail like that...must be on another list!
