I was once told that urine cover scents will turn to ammonia while sitting on the shelf. Will the dilution for the Magical Mist freshen it up? Or is it useless after, if, this happens?

Bryan, I buy it by the gallon and sometimes it lasts for a while and I have never had that happen.

As long as your container is air tight you shouldn't have to worry much about it. But yes, Urine can crystalize if left on the shelf too long. The ammonia is the earlier stage of the process.
Squirt some on a metal plate or in an old galvenized bucket and let it set, it shouldn't take but about 2-3 days and you can see the process in action... ![[Eek!]](eek.gif)

I don't have a problem, keep it filled and tightly capped. Stores fine. I wonder if you could reconstitute the crystals, should you leave it dry out in a pail?
One thing about it, when you buy it commercially, they do not make any claims on freshness, but really, what could go wrong? It still stinks.

See, sometimes the wind swirls around and your body causes the mist to circle around and come right back at you, if you aren't careful. When it's like that, I hold the bottle out sideways at arms length.
In all seriousness, the worse thing is to inhale it, and that happens, same way as above. Ugh! But hey, are we die hard coyote hunters, or not? You will put up with it, when you see how it works.

Leonard, how many times have you guessed the wind wrong at night. You think the wind is blowing the other way. So to make sure you spray some of that sweet stuff next to the light to see what way it's going. Damn, it's going the wrong way, right back in your face. Been there done that before lol.

Cal, I know it sounds beyond funny, but it's just one of those things, I always use mist.....has it's drawbacks, though!

Him? Big deal, but that $hit will fog a scope, big time. Doesn't dry clear, know what I mean? There's the dilemma, do you scratch an expensive lens with a dirty shirttail, or spit on it, or live with it? Time's a wastin' and there's an animal out there!

Bryan, just noticed that you used the "C" word. I particularly object to the concept of cover scent, in general, but not to your right to express yourself in any way you see fit.
Specifically, my opinion is that it is a waste of time to try to "cover" your scent, with coyotes. I am not doing that. What I am doing is offering a snootful of very interesting scent to offset the human smell. Coyotes routinely smell humans in their pursuits, I don't think they are deathly afraid of our smell, unless the proximity spells danger, or we are attempting to call him to a location that reeks of human scent.
Lots of differing opinions on that. My (so called) "Magic Mist", gives a coyote something to think about, besides those smells that add up to human, and their associated objects. This creates a reaction that could be described as
Confusion or Conflict, or
Curiosity, but much more acceptable "C" words, in my opinion.
Bottom line, it makes a shot possible, down wind. What's not to like?

I tasted coyote pee once, well twice. The first time was one of those evil wind eddies. Whew! Takes the air right outta your lungs. The second time was about a week after I filtered a quart of the stuff in my wife's kitchen. Bless her heart, I left the bottle of filtered urine right there on her counter between the flour and the coffee. She didn't say a word. Not a complaint. 'Bout a week later, I start noticing that the tuna helper had a little "TWAAAAANNNNGGGG!!!!!" to it. I can't prove a thing, but I did notice she was eating a sandwich and nothing else. Hmmm?!?!

I think our wives may be related. That sounds like something that might happen around here. Actually I have a pretty good stash of coyote amonia around, but I use it for trapping. Haven't tried the calling deal yet, but I will have to this fall.

Leonard- I agree with your thoughts on urine usage- but in a different way.
I'm a coyote traper, and i use a lot of urine. NOT as a coverup, but as you say- 1 other thing to keep a coyote curious and interested. As a trapper- the more things present both scent wise and visuals to keep a coyote working the sety- the more coyotes I catch.
I am a firm beleiver in that you are NEVER going to convince a coyote you haven't been there and haven't done sonmething- best you can do is make him not care.
Human scent doesn't necesarily spook coyotes- unless its smoking fresh. Maybe in isolated regions- but in average farm/small ranch counrtry a coyote would be a nervous wreck if he jumped at every human track.
