When you have a dog that barks at you every time you walk by, a. you kick its tail, or b. you ignore it. Either way it will learn who it should or should not bark at.
When to use either tactic? Here's a good rule of thumb.
In an alley or in your own yard, you kick its tail.
When in somebody elses yard, ignore it.Don't give it a second look. Don't pay it any attention at all. Because that's what it wanted it the first place. If you don't give the dog any attention what so ever it will soon learn that it will get no satisfaction from you.
Much the same advice could go for being on anyof the boards that you may choose to frequent.
If you get a dog barking at you from his little porch, ignore him. Don't give him any response at all and eventually he will learn that all his barking will get him no attention. And in the end he will only be a lonely little dog on a small porch. And not even his previously over inflated ego will be around to keep him company.
pup, patner I'm truly sorry to see you had to endure that bark-fest, but it is a lesson learned. Because, you have to let little dogs bark so you can learn who to ignore. But at all times I've got your back and you've got mine. Some people should be so lucky as to be able to call you partner and sit a stand in pursuit of a few stupid animals that can't discern the meaning of their own language(so some people would try to lead others to believe). You and I both know from numerous stands in witness of response and posture of the yotes that they understand full well what each bark and howl means. Although we don't ourselves that is the riddle we will unravel a little more each time the dogs cooperate.

Nah, I think you missed the point too.
The point is not whether coyotes can discern their own language, the point is whether or not WE CAN DISCERN THEIR LANGUAGE and WHETHER OR NOT IT MAKES US MORE EFFECTIVE CALLERS EVEN IF WE COULD.
I know it's nice to think we can and think it will make a difference.
Hope that clarifies the spin!
Good day to ya Okie Dokie!

Ok.257-
thanks for the kind words, You never talk to me that way when we are together, why would you use such verbage when company is around. I think that I am going to cry. Quit trying to fool the guests we all know that the reason that you hunt with me is because that my grandfather is Dr. Dolittle.
Speaking of yard dogs, what do you guys do when they come in to a stand?

That's a good question pup!
The Pine Ridge Indian Reservation is full of dogs and it's quite common to call them in.
If I am on private land, if I know that this landowner has had problems with dogs in the past, if the landowner has requested me to shoot any dogs, if there is nobody living anywhere near the area, and if the dogs appear to be wild and not domestic, I think you know what I would do.
That is a lot of ifs to consider.
In other words, I am very cautious and use discretion. I know how easy it is for someone to lose track of their dog and not know that it's running.
There is no right or wrong answer.
