What type and brand caller would you recommend
to someone just starting to call? Money not being
a big deal.

I should of said hand callers. I have bought a
Johny Steward Preymaster Digital caller.

Walt, a closed reed is usually easiest to learn to call with. Sceery makes a dandy for about 20 bucks as does Lohman, Primos and many others. You are fortunate to be a member of this board along with Jay Nistetter of Rhino Calls, Richard Grantham of RG Custom Calls, Lance Homman of Predatr Calls, and Kevin Luken of K Kalls. All of these gentlemen make absolutely beautiful calls that are hand tuned individually. Calls made by callers. Can't beat that.

Not one guy in a hundred is going to suggest this, but if you learn to use a diaphram call, you won't regret it.

Good hunting, LB

The Dan Thompson PC-series hand calls are easy to blow and dont freeze up easily.I prefer the open reed like Tally-ho or Boddickers crit'r call.Get the instructional tape with it and its not hard either.I keep a 1/4 can of copenhagen in my mouth all the time so a diaphram doesnt work well for me.

Leonard, Can you tell me what type diaphram caller you are talking about and where to buy one. Won't mind trying to use a Diaphram caller.

Walt I like the Sceery calls, I use the AP-6 (Snowshoe hare) and the AP-4 (Cottontail) and the Primos regulator-10 (open reed) and Raspy Coaxer. When the tem is below freezing I dont blow on the AP's as hard it seems to keep them from locking up. Lately it's been in the -5 to -30 range. After each series I turn the call around and blow out the condesation build up. Good luck hunting.

Walt,

Ed Sceery's open reed predator calls have worked well for me for years when I have used them.

I like the Primos diaphram calls too. They are back up to my usual electronic attack. I always have one or two in glove box, and always one in side pocket of my cammies.
