It actually feels and looks like winter!
Pulled the last of the traps and the wind was blowing snow in behind the truck fairly fast.
More storms coming in over the mountains and the wind at the house is moving the road runner's leg really fast.

Arco to Carey is now closed due to snow and drifting.

So much for a early spring.

I was meaning to warn ya about conclusions and weather predictions in early February; they CAN bite you in the butt. Also, recycling topic subject headlines. But, that's just me, there's no rule, as such.

Just kidding. But hey, I've seen blizzard conditions in May, in SOUTHERN Arizona, so it CAN happen.

Just settle down and enjoy civilian life. [Smile]

edit: If we didn't like ya, we wouldn't pick on ya.

Got a number of pocket note books my father always carried in his front shirt pocket to keep track of feed prices, number of bales on either of our two pastures, number of piglets born or claves etc. It's noted inn bold letters, SNOW MAY 11th, I can remember it, just not the year?, never saw that occur again in my lifetime there.

Yeah but I was there! Had to put on the chains, which I ALWAYS carry anyway. And, it blew in from the EAST and 40 miles from Tucson, on the Papago, of course. There's something about mysterious weather patterns coming up out of Sonora, always scrambled. Assume you folks have heard about the monsoons and the frogs?

But, they are always somewhere else, like over there, not right here where we are. You know? I mean, it's AWESOME and all that, but you don't really get dumped on, seems like? But, I agree, we need to do something about it! Thanks for mentioning it!

Vic, we need you here. On this. What about the heat lightning? What did Dad say? Ever done Sasabee? (just nod your head)

Used to have family picnics in Sasabee in the 60's, was a beautiful area. Have hunted that whole Altar valley area only a few times. With the introduction of antelope, they only allow coyote hunting in the months I don't like to hunt coyotes. Far to many Border Patrol and illegals as well as other hunters in that area anymore, plus it's a bit of a push in distance to run for hunting for me?

I had to look up heat lightning, never heard of it? Wiki tells me it's simply lightning so far off in distance the associated cracks and booms are not audible, so apparently, Ive seen heat lightning thousands of times.

Well yeah, I'm talking back in the day. Haven't been there in a long time. But it is a cool area, used to be.

Actually, I do remember hunting once about ten years ago and the damned coyotes were spooky as hell. I could hear them shooting at 3 points. Fuck that! Arrivaca.

But, down around the border, it always seems kind of exotic, to me. I've mentioned before, actually climbing the fence to drag a coyote. Those days are over! Can't even believe I did that? And, not just once. Dumb ass.

Ive shot my share of Mexican coyotes, by setting up right near the barbed wire fence......just never crossed it to retrieve them.

Posted by Leonard (Member # 2) on February 12, 2019, 06:58 PM:

That's what I'm talking about. You are just smarter than me. Of course we always had to bring them back for check in, otherwise there was no point.

But, yeah, mainly all we had was a double strand of barbed wire fence, two fences side by side, which actually made it easier to climb over.

Those days are pretty much over. Now, it's just strolling down Memory Lane. lol

Good hunting. El Bee

edit: come to think of it, since the monuments were well past the barbed wire, sometimes, I guess we weren't technically in Mexico?

Those days are long gone , I've gone well past the monuments to pick up a few , now the washes are covered in backpacks and Pedialyte bottles its like a landfill of traveler trash !

Posted by Leonard (Member # 2) on February 13, 2019, 09:47 AM:

You know, I've seen the trash for years in the desert between Yuma and Tucson because that's where I concentrated. But, the first time I did a little hunting between Nogales and Tucson, I was literally shocked at the backpacks, plastic jugs and sleeping bags. And, there is a sort of valley that runs along 19 most of the way. I suppose most of the traffic is at night, but boy, just judging by all the discarded stuff, it's more like a landfill. There's not yet flocks of crows and seagulls, but with a few more Doritos and cookie crumbs and they will show up. It's really amazing, you have to see it to believe it.

And, I just had a thought. Instead of stringing razor wire on the border, they need to get it along that corridor. Every mile. Oh, and when you get a heavy rain, all those damned jugs float and pile up. I'm wasting my time talking about it, you cannot visualize it without seeing it.

West side of the state is getting pounded by the weather. Any elevation is getting snow like in the old days. Road are closing due to drifting and blowing snow. Avalanche Alley is closed now. Looks like from Idaho City to Stanley. East side of the state a lot of roads are closed due to blowing and drifting snow.
We seem to be in the donut hole. 41* cloudy and a south wind so there is melting going on.
Glad I don't have to or need to drive anywhere. Couldn't get there if I wanted to.

Bees? I always await the first spider of spring. And squash it.

We have been hovering in the mid 30's overnight lows and a couple nights last week in the 20's. I look around the yard and see frost damage to some of the more fragile succulents. But, it might be an upswing around here, the worst is over/cross your fingers. Yeah, just checked, all next week mid 30's. That's why, this whole area was citrus groves, they planted the thick skinned Eureka Lemons a hundred years ago and they are still here. You cannot sell lemons in Upland, everybody's got 'em. Coastal lemons are the Meyers, much thinner skin. Fortunately for me, the guy behind me planted 4 Valencia orange trees close to the wall so I can reach all I want. That's the best "juice" orange.

Wtf ? were is spring ? Come home spring come home !

Anybody see my bee ? Gotta go cut some more firewood at least I'm
busy !

As a landscape contractor people would ask where is the best place to plant a lemon tree I would reply in your neighbors yard close to the wall how many lemons do you need !

It's not like I didn't warn you it was coming!

I hear you on how many lemons does one need. Reminds me of my father in law. He would come over, go in the back and fill up 3 shopping bags with lemons. He would give them out all over the neighborhood when he got home. Then, when we would occasionally have fish or any other rare reason for wanting a lemon, I'd go out back and needed a ladder in the dark to reach a damned lemon because ol' George already stripped everything he could reach. But, at least his heart was in the right place. The bitch next door has thee lemons in the back and one out front, on the corner. So, these Mexicans mowing lawns across the street came over and were helping themselves to her lemons. And she calls the cops. If you knew her, you would have no trouble believing it. How many can you carry? When they were done, you couldn't notice any difference, the tree was still loaded. But, that doesn't matter to a mean bitch. This whole area of north Upland was developed in lemon groves and they only removed what they had to to build the house. I pulled up three to dig the pool, the guy behind me dug up 8 lemon trees in his back yard.

I have the same conditions here. Just to the north, on a winding state highway straight up, an 8 mile drive is 13,000 ft Mt Baldy, as everybody knows it, but on the map, it's actually Mount San Antonio. There aren't two many higher mountains in the state and it is blanketed in snow. Not only that, but for good measure, Cucamonga Peak is also covered and as is Crestline and Big bear, of course. I heard the Grapevine was closed a couple days ago? And, from what I can see, Cajon Pass is snowed on all the way to Hesperia. So, we got snow and lots of it. BFD

Daughter just left, 7 1/2 hour drive back to Marin. Nice visit. Pinky loves company, especially if they are girls. Don't ask me how he knows but he knows. It's chilly outside, (I'm not kidding) here it is, 10:15AM and the temperature right here is 35* That's unusual, folks.

I thought spring was commencing but not quite yet. This GLOBAL WARMING/CLIMATE CHANGE stuff is the real thing!

"lovely gift" means different things to a kid growing up enduring a Minnesota winter. By the time Halloween was past, snow was there and all it's variations; slush, crunchy, icy, deep and dirty. Shoveling sidewalks and piling it up, sprinkling sand and salt so you don't get sued when some old fart slips and falls. Now they even have heat trace under the driveways; imagine that?

Then we wait patiently until the spring thaw when all the frozen dog shit was uncovered. Snow is something I prefer driving into and out of, thank you very much!

Can you imagine how they measure the snow mass up at Truckee Pass? Most years it's more than 600 inches accumulated and the spring runoff provides all, (or most) of the water for LA. Amazing what a little engineering can do. Then, there's those 10,000 lakes where I come from, no engineering involved.

Well, so much for accurate forecasts. We didn't get anything more than those large drops, and bright sunshine this morning, although it's 36* right now. I'm pretty sure the snow a little higher up is going to stick, even the mountains south of Corona are covered. I can see 25 miles straight south from my back door and those mountains hardly ever have snow, in fact I don't ever remember seeing it.

The GLOBAL WARMING Zealots would take that as proof positive, and the pathetic thing about it is they think we can do something about "weather".

Well, if it is, don't expect to hear it on the network news. They don't like truth to interfere with propaganda.

I'm sorry, I just don't get it? These Climate Change Zealots aren't happy unless they are miserable and worried about the weather. I mean, they actually find comfort in the idea that the earth will end in 12 years. WTF?

And, with no data, no proof, they monkey with statistics to prove that the needle will move .002 degrees in the next 80 years or so. Hopefully?

They worry about C02, WTF? Life as we know it wouldn't be possible without it! Plants LOVE IT ! Where's the negatives? There aren't any negatives, but it sounds good to stupid Liberals.

They worry about GLOBAL WARMING ! With very little proof other than extreme weather conditions that could be due to many things, sun spot activity, El Nino, and other natural variations in cyclic global patterns, going back thousands of years. Never mind that if it does happen, Damn, people! IT'S A GOOD THING ! A longer growing season is beneficial for crops, and just for the production of more C02 which is the basic building block for everything!

Just try to make sense of these CHICKEN LITTLES. They are as dumb as a box of fucking rocks! None of their predictions make any sense! They can't prove any of it! It's a damned religion, you must have faith. And, this coming from "Scientists" that couldn't prove they had an ass without monkeying with their computer projections. These "Climate Change" scientists have got to be the stupidest people on the planet! Shamans, & Witch Doctors have more credibility.

Second blizzard of the year for us yesterday. Been most of a decade since we even had one. I like screwing with the southerners on my mail route. Lotsa "foreigners" here due to the military and some have never seen snow. Blizzards are somewhat unsettling to them. I tell them not to worry, "everything will be okay. You're in Kansas now. These things happen, and besides, blizzards ain't shit compared to tornadoes that'll be falling out of the sky with rainbows and hail stones in a couple months."

Then, I laugh like a mother fucker and walk away while they think on that. LOL

Snowmageddedon has hit Idaho.
Most of the roads in Eastern Idaho are closed. Hwy 21 is closed from Idaho City to Lowman and the always closed Avalanched Alley.
We have warnings from here on every road out of here for either rocks in the roads or large animals on the highways.

Just watched a video of a house in Cascade totally snowed over. It looks like a igloo. They are rushing to clear the roof before it crushes the house in.

Suppose to have major wind today like in the upper 30 mph. Have to go to Salmon today. Should be a fun trip. Other halfs permanent crown is ready to put on.

Going to be a long week of storms for the whole state.

Yeah, I'm not sure how bad things are ? I guess some guy called the shop from Central Idaho area. McCall ? & said he got 50" in 24 hours.

We got about a 1/3 of an inch of rain down here. Warmed up & windy as hell. I talked to Mom tonight in Redmond Oregon. She says @ least two feet of snow last night & today.

Leonard. Goats are fine. I had to patch up the roof on their house yesterday & packed in more straw & some grass hay. Snug as a bug in a rug [Wink]

These stats are at the NWS. The snowfall here is considerably higher. However...

Snowfall for the year here at 202" and climbing. That's 56.5" above normal.

In February, the NWS has recorded 87.2 inches of snow. That's 56.5 inches more than normal. The current snow depth is 53 inches.

Have a shirt tale cousin in Cascade they have 8 ft drifts against the house and over 3ft drifts in driveway. They haven't gotten out in 3 days. Said if they could it wouldn't matter as the county road is drifted in.
We hit 45* yesterday snow went to mush. This morning you can ice skate across the parking lot.

We had wind all day the drive back up the Salmon River was fun with a down canyon wind. Salmon got hit with a good snow yesterday morning.

We got the usual "Challis miss" nothing it jumped over us.

Fun week it is looking like. Can't get out of here.

0830 snowing, no wait it's sleeting, no wait it's raining. No it's doing it all one minute to the next.
Right now it's trying to snow.
I'm really glad there is no place we NEED to be today.

You deserve your Miranda warning; anything you say can be held against you. The only thing you didn't confess is that the sky is falling.

But keep it up, it's critical we have accuracy pertaining to the Intermountain region. Report fearlessly.

We had really, really light flurries today. On and off. Just enough accumulation to reveal where the ice was on the ground. In colder news, the temps only got to 13. Ironic, since our normal high for now is 50-51. Damned global warming isn't supposed to let up until maybe late next week. Lows this weekend down around 3. The silver lining? Finally got the dandelion problem in my lawn whooped!

I'm located in the north central Upper Peninsula of Michigan approximately 17 miles southwest of Lake Superior, which really adds to lake effect snow. For reference purposes the nearest "major city" is Marquette, Michigan.

Yeah, I'm getting cabin fever. My forecast is for rain, of 5 of the next 6 days. eek! This damned GLOBAL WARMING is sure screwing things up with the drought, which we were told was; get use to it, it's a permanent alteration of the climate due to CLIMATE CHANGE, which every body knows is never a good thing. We must sacrifice and spend money on bullshit projects the idiot Lefties have dreamed up. It's a friggin' mental illness!

Yesterday was a great day.
It started out snowing.
Stopped cleared out went to 52 degrees snow started melting and water was running everywhere.

Cold this morning 11* clouds moving in maybe something by late afternoon/early evening.

Avalanche Alley is still closed along with Arco to Carey. They are slowly getting the roads opened. Have a hunch they won't open hwy 21 until they take the avalanche danger warning off for the area.

I had a double-double in Vegas, wasn't too shabby ?

Posted by Leonard (Member # 2) on March 06, 2019, 12:49 PM:

I remember the first time I discovered the In N Out just off, (I think) Tropicana. Last time I heard, there were 5 in Vegas, probably a lot more now? Just 2 days ago, I ate at a FatBurger place for the first time. It wasn't too bad actually, and I really liked the fat fries. But, it was more than ten bucks, including a medium drink and I think In N Out can do it for less than $8. But, It's just nice to stop there once a month or so. And, this is what people miss when they move out of state, they always talk about it. In fact, when I had the dreaded colonoscopy where you have to take the prep and are starved by the time it's over, the nurses say, that's the number one statement, as they get dressed, they need a Double/Double!

What do you mean , you guys . don't throw me in with Prescott AKA little California I can never leave soon enough. The whole place is problematic.so much traffic, You have to understand where I live a traffic jam is at least one car behind me stopped a the RR tracks. They actually have two IN and OUTS.
Prescott Valley is actually much better planned but still a city to me! I must go there for prescriptions so we shop monthly while we are in Prescott Valley. The only thing not Californicated is there is a gun shop on every corner !LOL

It don’t get any better/gunshop on every corner!

edit: I can remember when there wasn't a Prescott Valley. WE use to go to the horse races at Prescott Downs. That was fun!

Fast food so called eateries. Don't eat that garbage or you will end up looking like you are from Tennessee. When I go into town to shop I have to search out any good looking lady that isn't at least 50 pounds overweight. Was fishing the other day at a local pond and a truck pulls up and out hops 3 kids and a baby with mom taking them on the walking trail drinking a Mc D's shake. Never seen so many overweight people, men, women and kids in my life. And all the trash that gets tossed out the windows of vehicles is ALL fast food ,sodas and beer. Pathetic and annoying to me anyways. Must be some sort of right of passage.
