Sitting at 5896 ft and it's SNOWING!! [Eek!]
Can't stand the office since I don't have a office to hide in.
Got the mountain top penthouse opened up on Wed so hiding out up here also can't stand to drive in Boise anymore with all the idiots that have shown up.
Wind is howling temps having low 40's or less (weather station doesn't want to work) It was 42 at 0740 this morning on the truck temp gauge.
So much for the start of fire season. [Big Grin]

Whiners!

Just kidding. Around here, it's a bit strange. Two mornings in a row, I woke up to wet concrete outside, and crummy gloom all day long, which I hate! Also, with the humidity, my feet are cold all day long! Sorry for sounding like a whiner! Come on, Summer!

Good hunting. El Bee

Been windy as hell last few supposed to stop tomorrow !Had a little prairie fire on Friday they got it out after a few hours with water and retardant tankers lost five homes! Saw it starting up on our way to Prescott by the time we were heading home it was a full blown mess I think about 2500 acres. Started around 9:00 A.M. out by 5:00 P.M. Good job by the responders and air coordination! They said some ass tossed a cigarette on the shoulder of 89 East !

The amount of people sticking cigs out the window of the cars and flicking their ashes off has probably increased 100%. Can't wait for actual summer time and these idiots.

EW,

You hit on one thing that bugs the hell out of me; People throwing their cigarettes butts out the window...

I've never smoked, so maybe I don't understand the need to quickly get rid of a burning cigarette no matter where you're at. In these parts, you will see somebody tossing a still burning cigarette out the window almost daily. Later in the summer, roadside grass dry as hell, people still do it.

Even people walking into the grocery store will take one last big drag and promptly flick it right onto the asphalt 10 feet in front of the door.

Just makes me shake my head....

There is cig butts all the way from the bottom to the top but it's the beer cans and bottles that the drunks throw out that drive me crazy.
I don't mind the drinking part just stay home and do it!
I'm seeing the people flicking ash right in town.
Can't wait for them to get out and recreating then they start flicking.
People have no respect for the public land and themselves anymore.

I've no sympathy for those that toss lit cigarettes along the road, but.

Consider the politically correct Liberals that browbeat and force vehicle manufacturers to eliminate the ash tray, and relabel the cigarette lighter into some sort of cell phone charging device.

So, as an occasional cigar smoker or cheroot, and sometimes a Hava Tampa, I must drive one handed and hold the cigar in the slipstream of the window for as long as it takes to burn out: extinguish.

My old girlfriend had a disgusting water bottle in the side door compartment that usually contained several cigarette butts, half full of water and the cap screwed on tight.

My uncle had a brand new copper colored '58 Impala that had an accessory funnel with a vacuum draft that sucked out cigarette ashes, not intended for butts, but that was a novel feature. He was a hip dude, his previous ride was a red '55 Nomad. That was long before he caught Toyota Fever.

Anyway, yes, a person that smokes cigarettes or weed should have the foresight to bring along his personal ashtray, but how many do? (I just remembered!) Uncle Dick invented a self extinguishing cigarette with a small plastic capsule imbedded that would melt and release the water and extinguish the butt. As I recall, he submitted his design to one of the big companies and he got a letter that said that they had staff working on stuff like that, but thanks for your interest!

I think what I'm driving at is, what is one to do with a burning object? Put it in your pocket? That's one reason why I like tubed cigars where you can smother them and screw on the cap.

Maintain,
El Bee

I knew and old guy who was a marine in WWII. He was taught to field strip the butt of the cig's. You could always drop on the ground grind it out then pick it up. If you strip the butt down and seen what was actually inside you'd quit smoking. They are nasty nasty looking.

Might have a good one coming in from the S.E. Black as hell. Just noticed part of one of the trees in the pasture cracked. Went out there hoping it didn't take any fence out. It didn't, landed the other side-barely.

The ditch is about 15ft deep so wont effect water flow. I'll have to clean it up though. Had to take a short 2x4 to fight off that one stupid yearling.

One 180lb dude vs 700lb cow.

Good Times..

I am a Vet and I know field stripping. In WWII, they didn't have anything besides Camels and Lucky Strikes, but field stripping a Marlboro leaves you with a filter. Now what? C rations usually had off brands, like Chesterfields and Wings, Kents or Winstons. But, they were free. We only ate C rations in the field and some were pretty good, everybody had favorites, usually more than a guy could eat in a day. Civilians loved C rations! Two weeks before payday, you could trade a case of C rations for a case of beer. Things like crackers and jelly, nobody was hungry enough to eat that shit. Every day rations had toilet paper and instant coffee, sugar, salt and pepper, a candy bar of some sort, really quite adequate. The scrambled egg in cans wasn't edible, nothing freeze dried in those days.

I had a boss that was drafted into the Weir mach when he was 14-15 and he said the Germans had nothing like C rations? They hauled around a large cast iron pot on a trailer and robbed the locals for whatever they had, sausages, chickens, hogs, potatoes and so it was mystery stew every night. Kinda hard to believe that they lived off the land, not much different than Roman Legions.

We used to hate C ration night, once a month at the mess hall which was for economy and I guess to use it up? Therefore, we ate dinner at the PX, mainly hamburgers and fries....if we could afford it. Everybody hears about Army chow and how bad it was, but it wasn't. And, a Thanksgiving Dinner was as good as anything Mom put on the table.Everybody says Navy and Airforce chow was superior. I've had both, not really a nickels worth of difference.

Quartermaster would truck out meals in the field in large insulated metal cans. The only hardship was eating out of a mess kit. They had large garbage cans setup with heaters, full of water and you dipped your mess kit in all three and they were clean and sanitized after the last one. If you didn't have your mess kit, the solution was to use a slice of bread as a tray and do the best you could, a mashed potato, gravy and pork chop sandwich. These days, they don't even have mess kits.

We never had sterno. Therefore we heated up our meal of ham and potato with peas, or Tuna noodle; was to pierce the lid and use a wire rigged up on the engine manifold in a U shaped loop for 10-15 minutes. Plenty hot by then. We never starved, usually had plenty left over to trade. C rations were very good but you could get sick of it after a month in the field. Which is why we bartered on the local economy. You could always find civilians that would buy it, even the tea and instant coffee.

End of trip down Memory Lane.

Good hunting. El Bee
