I'm looking for a new howler since my Zepp Kill Pole Howler got lost when I had a saddle bag tear. Before I just buy a replacement, is there any other [loud] howler out there with great sound and high quality thats's worth looking at?

I just checked my favorite place to spend money I don't have on stuff I don't need; eBay.
Got about a hundred valid hits on 'coyote howler'.
Dan Thompson's Red Desert Howler makes good howls and is pretty close to being bullet proof. A bit on the bulky side.
E.L.K. Ind. Power Howler, to my ear, makes great sounds. Reeds are a bit fragile.
Several of the Herb's Howler style cow horn / open reed models offered. Very good sound but bulky.
And, don't forget, a Crit-R-Call Standard is hard to go wrong with for all around calling & howling.
I'm sure that others here would have different preferences and their choices would be every bit as valid as mine.
Let us know what you come up with & how you like it.

I have three howlers. A Higgins Howler, unique sound but it's not loud. at all. Then, I have an original Herb's Howler. Good sound and adequate volume. But the loudest howler I have is a Johnny Stewart, by a lot. It breaks down so it would fit easier in a saddlebag.

Anyway, in my game, volume isn't the main thing, it's what you say. I'm hesitant to use all the various labels or titles, lone howl, lost pup, yada yada. There's a lot of chatter about voice howls and challenge howls. I can't voice howl for shit but I can do a fair howl with a diaphragm and cupping my hands, it's loud enough for my purposes.

Good hunting. El Bee

Zepps are still available, I mean, if you likes it, you can get another?

If you want to try some diaphrams, I make a few.

I have a 'full sized' cocobolo howler from my friend Kerry Carver that is is top notch. Easy to blow & LOUD! Have some smaller Carver howlers also, and they sound excellent as well. But that big one can really crank...

Don't see that big howler for sale on his page, maybe give him a call & see if he could spin one up for ya?

Anybody remember Al Lux?

I was going through some stuff in the reloading room and came across an Al Lux call. Really neat call in its own right. All aluminum construction with different closed reeds that are interchangeable.

I don't remember ever using it on a stand though..

Yeah, I have a beautiful lime green Al Lux call. It’s a lime green anodized aluminum with a couple of different length barrels. It shows some excellent craftsmanship and design. He autographed it for me.

Good hunting. El Bee 🐝
