What would happen if you put a squeaker reed or two in the open reed call ??? Something you could sorta play like an ocarina whistle flute.

Yes, the 'flashlight model' has a squeaker reed.
I have a few closed reed calls set up like that, the Weems Dual Tone being the most noteworthy.
I'm referring to doing something similar to the open reed.

I guess, theoretically, it could be done? But, unlike a closed reed call, the open reed is very versatile with lips and teeth and when and where you clamp down on the reed. I think I can make dozens of significantly different changes in tone and volume with an open reed call.
I dunno, maybe I'm missing sumtin?

What I'm thinking on is that if I blow a chord on my harmonica the dog goes nuts.
So ................... mayhap a couple of squeaker reeds tuned slightly different, blown at the same time might push a coyote's buttons.
Or I could just keep using the Weems.

A long time ago, I had a cow horn, threaded the end and made me a mouthpiece from some delryn with three holes bunched close in a triangular arrangement. Into which I pushed 3 different JC reeds. that, combined with the effect of the horn actually did produce a unique sound. So, I sent it off to the man himself, Jay Nistetter for evaluation. He sent it back and said he had no doubt that it would cal even a very difficult coyote where something else might not work. I don't know, maybe he was being polite?
I've got it around here somewhere, I aught to dig it out and post a couple pictures. It's rather doubtful anybody has ever done one quite like it. I haven't seen it in 15/20 years? But I don't throw shit like that away.

Two reeds, side by side, with a slightly different tune...
Mark is one of the call makers I believe is best set up tooling and skills wise to do these, given that he uses a machine lathe... it would require an adjustable four jaw chuck, to move the call blank off to each side and bore the two holes next to each other. ![[Wink]](wink.gif)
I personally never loved the sound of these calls, but George swears by his and has used it to kill a buncha stuff.

Some guys do like the side by side reed setup. If it is spaced apart just right you can use them individually or together. I personally dont like it that much, but there's nothing wrong with it at all. Ive made em and killed stuff with em. Kinda tough to tune for me, I like it a certain way..which is mainly a high pitched 2 tone birdy sound...I love that.
On the other hand, I do like a dual reed open reed call. Same kinda deal, you can turn it to one side and play one reed by itself or play both. Easy to get that bird sound I mentioned.
Think of distressed starling like sound, 2 tone metallic like...love it for cats...if you can keep the fox off of you long enough.
