If there are any of you guys out there that have a Richard Grantham call and you are looking to unload it, keep me in mind.

I have one of the newer styles ('05-ish) that he made. I'm looking for the old style that he made that were the Circe style.

Smithers;
Refresh a frail old man's failing memory; Who is Richard Grantham??? The name seems familiar, but I can't place it. [Confused]

For that matter, what ever happened to Melvin Landman?? He made a really cool, small, antler reproduction, open reed call. Kind of a smaller, high pitched version of Cronk's antler call.

He's a member here, koko. Has not posted in a while and I "think" he retired from making calls. The other name? I have a couple of his calls and I like them very much.

Good hunting. LB

Chris, I have about 5 or 6 of them. All signed. The first ones off the lathe when he got it.

You cant have them [Smile]

From what I understand Richard has passed. He was battling some serious illness for a while. I traded him a couple buffalo horns that I bought from TRnCO for the call I have. I cleaned the horns and polished 'em up real nice and never did anything with them so asked if he wanted to trade and he did.

He made a great call with a great sound and I was hoping a glutton, like Lonehowl, would come up off one. Lol.

He said that he and his partner would clean up the Texas contests using his calls. I believe it.

(if he's in fact, not dead... my apologies [Smile] )

Yeah, he passed away. Honestly, I love the calls and they do hold a special place in my collection.
Richard came to the forums years ago and ended up contacting me, and others, with some wood lathe questions, and he filled me in on his experiences with calls and callmakers back in the 50s and 60s, which is quite interesting. He could make a great sounding closed reed call.
One thing he showed me was how to drill a stepped bore in one swoop, using a drill bit he had specially step ground at a machine shop that precisly matched the inside of a Circe call barrel. It was something I was searching for at the time and had not thought of. A simple idea that I wish more guys would pick up on instead of using those silly unibits from Lowes everyone uses. He was a good egg in my book.

He was a good guy from what I knew of him. I still have some if the pm's we traded on Predator Masters. He was a unique fella.
And Mark, I'm sure everyone that has one of his calls is going to hold onto them. I was just razzin' ya.
But there is hope; there's a sucker born every minute. [Smile]
I should go through PM and look for every person that bought one and call them every day til they sell one to me.

Funny thing... He had the flu or some other viscous bug when he tuned my call. I received the call a few days later and even though I rinsed that SOB off I still caught whatever Ebola like germ he had. I was in bed for three days and he was pm'ing me like crazy cause he hadn't received the horns I was trading him. I told him I was sick as a dog and couldn't get outta bed to mail the horns. That's when he told me that he was just getting over the same sickness when he tuned the call he sent. Lol. Gross.

A pic of my Grantham call and a Rare Earth HSB (smaller than average HSB).
I asked Bob of Rare Earth to tune the reed extra raspy, he did, and it sounds excellent. He was at the Michigan Predator Hunting Rendezvous last Saturday and was a pleasure to speak with; to shake hands with and speak to a legendary call maker like Bob is a real treat. Especially when you're a call geek. [Smile]
I used the Grantham in the calling contest they held at the Rendezvous.
Yes Leonard, they let me out on good behavior. Lol. [Razz]

Richards personal call made back in the day.

Have more some where and pick them up every chance I can get. Richard also sent me newspaper clippings and such from the early days of calling and placing in some of the contest.

I'll see what other ones I have tonight. I know I picked up several others from collections and seen one recently sell on Ebay for a fair price.
