Finally everything lined up to get to the shooting range to sight in rifles.
Got the 6.5 lined out grouping. I even rang the gong at 500 yards.
Got the .308 grouping. But have a feeling it needs to go back out after the other half found all the screws loose in the stock. Also the 7mm wouldn't group but found the screws loose also while cleaning them. Something is still wrong with it. Might be the ammo? Don't know but it's driving him crazy. I told him just use the .308 or the .270.
My shoulder is a little sore but found the 6.5 doesn't kick much harder than the .243. Lets just say the shoulder isn't screaming any worse than it usually does after a night of rest.
First time in a lot of years I'm excited about shooting and going out and target practicing.

Scope rings were fine. It was the stock screws into the rifle on both the 308 and 7mm.

Earthwalker.
Something to remember when tightening down your stock screws is that the key is to very securely tighten the front screw, the larger one under the recoil lug.
Then very carefully snug up the smaller screw close to the trigger guard. You never want this screw to be very tight.
If your action is pillar bedded, that advice doesn't really apply. Go ahead and get both screws tight, trusting that the bedding is already as perfect as you can get it.
But on a conventional bedded rifle with the recoil lug glassed or epoxied, the front screw will bear all the weight. The rear screw being too tight can spring the action and result in the bedding changing under recoil. (and point of aim will be affected)
If your action isn't bedded at all, just snugged down into the wood or composite stock; your accuracy will greatly improve if you at least glass bed it and maybe take it to a gunsmith for pillar bedding, which is the best way to go.

The FIL was a gunsmith husband grew up with it. He just caught it and we can't figure out why they would be loose. He got them tightened and did it right.
For the last 6 years our life has been in a state of ups and downs.
I lost my whole family in a 9 month time period. Then we lost his mother and his middle brother. Dealing with the brother and his parents house and moving it all out in 10 day of 30 years of hoarding then bringing a lot of it up here. Last year I lucked into an elk about 200 yds off a dirt road on the 5th day of the season. So it was a wam bam thank you mam hunt. Just got the reloading gear set up and starting to get things going this season.
It was a lack of looking over the rifles on our part and it was a hard lesson this season but it is what it is. We're still thinking some of the problems was the rifle and maybe his shooting this season.
I never made it up a hill to shoot. I twisted my knee in Sept thinking I pulled the LCL on the left knee. I can go up but the down is a killer. Also we had the dog with us and Idaho F/G frowns on dogs in the field while hunting big game. In the general seasons it's totally illegal to have one with you if hunting big game. So I stayed at the truck watched guided the other half and kept the dog from tearing the truck into pieces. Don't ask the dog and the other half are joined at the hip.
The .308 is a Win Pre 64 feather weight original stock. My first rifle my dad bought for $60 and it had only a half of box of shells shot through it when I got it at age 12.

Other half went up yesterday to test fire some reloads.
6.5 5 shot group is touching.
308 5 shot 3 shots grouped good then 2 flyers
7mm all over the place plus it's beating up the other half real bad gives him a headache and his shoulder is dying.
Going to trade the R-15 .204 off for a Browning X bolt .308 in the Speed model.
So now to reload a bunch up and start practicing.
