Sorry this may be a dumb question but can I run a 2506 in a savage short action??
I assume no, but I have heard different from a few people. I figured Leonard would be able to set me straight.

Absolutely not possible. I have seen a few marginal chambering of 257Roberts Ackley which apparently, has some impressive numbers but not in the same league with the 25'06 version. I have had three of them and I researched it as much as I could, compared with the 257Weatherby Magnum. In my research, I found, as much as my satisfaction would permit, that the 25'06 Ackley performed right alongside the Weatherby....but only with 75/100 grain bullets which was all I was interested in anyway. And, it burns (don't quote me) something like 8 grains less powder, at least according to the published data I found. Now, I also clarify my opinion by stating that there might be newer, more suitable propellants developed in the last 20 years or so that would move the goal posts in the Weatherby performance.
But, for my purpose, the 25'06AI has always worked for me. It's one of those confidence issues. I also decided that inside 500yards, the 117-120 grain bullets show no advantage over the 100 grain. And, no bullshit, I have never had a cripple with that cartridge. It just knocks their dick in the dirt.
I don't even know about Savage actions? Most all of them appear to be variations of the Model 110? But it's a perfectly adequate action and I think they button rifle their barrels, fairly well known for accuracy.

Thanks for the info Leonard I appreciate it. I had heard from a few different people that it would work in a short action but I just wanted to clarify that it’s not true.
I think this will be my next build, do you have recommendations on twist rate? Wanting to shoot 85 grain bullets.
Wanting a new contest gun where I won’t be worried about a crippled or whatever it may be. Just want something that absolutely stomps them.

I'm using 1 in 13".
The slower your twist rate the longer your barrel life, and shooting Ackley's this is a fairly important consideration.
