My ten year old got through hunters safety so he could carry a rifle this year. We got out three times, one of those times we may as well of stayed home due to wind. I really have to be careful in how much I push him so he doesn't have a miserable experience. We only managed to call one coyote. Next year I'm going to get him out during puppy season, even if he has to skip church. His mother will get over it.

The windy day wasn't a complete waste. I had thrown some snares in the back of the truck thinking we could set a few, I could just check them the one time required during the week and we would have to go out the next weekend to check snares at least. We didn't set many, and they didn't connect but served the purpose of getting us back out there well.

On the mid week check I spotted a coyote standing 75 to 80 yards off the road. It was rare to see this happen in my area before the bounty was put in place, when it did, the minute you lifted up on the accelerator pedal they were on the move. Now they don't seem to wait for that. When I came to a stop, just 80 yards away, and he still stood there I knew something was up. My first thought was that he was standing in a trap. I sat in the truck and watched him for some time, thinking that he would test the chain at least one more time. Finally he started to move, once he turned so I could see more than his chest and head I could see the blood on his hind end, and he wasn't doing too good. I slipped out of the truck and used the bright orange fence post for a dead rest, then drove away.

The next weekend worked out much better weather wise. We were set up in one of my best, for Utah, spots. I had just checked the timer on the remote. According to it, we had been there 19 minutes. I glanced over at the child. He was playing with a stick, staring straight at the ground. Who can blame him, twenty minutes is a long time for me too. I gave everything one last look, and as I got back around to his side a coyote stepped out from behind a bush, 25 yards out and 10* off the end of his muzzle. At this point I should have turned the call back on with mouse noises or something but I didn't. Instead I tried to get the kids attention, and he did see it as it turned tail, and no shots were fired.

Other than that, I managed to get some cable around a coyote and a few fox, and managed to get a couple of #3 Bridgers under a couple of bobcat's feet. Had both boys along for that.

I remember taking my daughters out on the trap line years ago. They had a great time. Grew up loving the outdoors and one of them still hunts to this day. The other sort of lost interest after getting married but that's the way it goes I suspect.
Nothing but good memories.
Memories, the wife and daughters were out with me while I was calling and decided to go for a walk sans any tops.Yup, you guessed it. The local 4X4 club was out for a spin. And yup they were caught out in the open.I was just short of peeing my pants laughing.
Enjoy those kids while they are young. They grow old faster than you do.

One time, I was with my AZ family on an outing up by Oak Creek and Sedona. My cousin has this area back in the woods where she likes to hike and there are some rock shelters, small creeks and it's pleasant.

The guys all had backpacks with drinks and snacks, I'm pretty sure there was about twenty of us including the kids.

We got to a clearing after a sprinkle where we ducked into a shallow cave. This open area in the trail could have been about 25 yards wide, by far the biggest open area we had come across.

So, we broke out the drinks and stuff and sat in a big rough circle when this couple came walking by, with walking poles. The chick didn't have a top on and had the prettiest set of perky boobs you ever saw!

Everybody silently watched the two walk the length of the clearing in total silence. Just as they passed and had their back to us, my wife started laughing and said; "There you are, three guys with cameras and nobody is taking pictures!"

Like an electric shock, those three guys all dived for the cameras and I don't think anybody got a shot of anything except the backs of two hikers fading into the trees.

The children were aghast, what happened to that ladies shirt? etc. Other than that, the hike was enjoyable, if uneventful. I'm pretty sure nobody has forgotten.

Good hunting. El Bee

I kind of hope they remember the days we were able to get out hunting and trapping more than the basketball games we cart them off to play in every Saturday.

It looks like I need to get out a little more during the warmer months.

Aint that the truth! Yesterday, I was behind this Asian kid at the Costco food court waiting to order my pepperoni pizza. This guy was a real pro, like most Asian kids, using both thumbs furiously. For ten minutes, he never looked up, I was tempted to shove him several times. It's progress, right?

I want to talk about the State of the Union speech by Trump last night. I thought it was an excellent speech but you would never know it by watching the reaction from the Democrats. He ticked off a lot of progress, good things, not just political but like the booming economy and the stock market, for example.

I thought Bret Hume had a great line afterwards when he said of the Democrats, "They all looked like their dog just died." I don't know? It seemed to me that griping about every damned thing completely destroys their credibility? I know they just can't get over losing the election but it's about time to put on their big boy pants and face reality. They aren't in a position to call the shots. They have to win an election first. Maybe they will, but until then it's so ridiculous to oppose for the sake of opposition.

And, Hillary reading from that Fast and Furious book at the Grammys. (which I didn't watch) She's damned lucky she's not out on bail pending sentencing! I don't get it, and I will never get it! Where's the charm, where's the warmth? She gags me, literally!

There were a few folks watching the lunar eclipse last night.
As I pulled up on the forklift one of them was commenting on how red the moon was. My response was that even the moon wants to be a red state and the lunar event is an Omen that the Sky Gods approve of the Words of the Trump.
Most of them got a chuckle but I'm pretty sure one of them won't be speaking to me for a long time.

Yeah, it was a really good speech !!!

That's right, JP. I have not a single problem with Trump in this past year, except perhaps he could choke back on the Twitter. Some of it is very effective but some of it is unnecessary.

Oh, my kids get plenty of that blue screen action.

I thought it was a good speech too. There are a lot of people scoffing at the Trump economy and that President Trump is reaping the benefits of past Obama policy. What a load of horse shit. Maybe I'm the only one who noticed that the housing bubble burst and the whole "Bush economy crash" happened within days of it becoming clear that BHO would be the Democratic Nominee? The economy is driven as much on confidence, or the lack there of, as much as supply and demand.

I have to laugh at the Democrats though. They are so butt hurt over loss they have not stepped back and realized that Trump would work with them on somethings much better than Senator Cruz would have on some things. I think anyway.

I know the President gets a lot of flack over his Twitter feed, but he has been using it as a tool. He has the hostile media pretty well halter broke and can lead them wherever he wishes. He has been doing it for two years and they still haven't caught on.

He was not my first choice, but so far he has exceeded my expectations.

Regardless of what Trump might do, or not do, on any given day, personally, I have not forgotten how we dodged the bullet with President Hillary! Just THINK about the implications and then quit worrying about Trump's twitter feed.

IT'S ALL GOOD !

Leonard,

Trump's tweets serve two purposes. First, it's sure as hell the only way we'll ever know where he really stands on any issue because the MSM won't tell us.

And 2, Trump's tweets are a lot like coyote turds. You're walking along and there's a coyote turd. Now, you wonder to yourself just why that coyote would dump it right there and for the life of you, there's no real telling. But, to the coyote, it serves a purpose. It marks the spot for a reason that means something to him, and to the next rangy sonofabitch coyote that comes along. It serves as a warning, and if the next one doesn't get it, it serves as a precursor to an ass whooping. If you follow up on his tweets, most of the cryptic ones end up being some sort of trap or a warning that the MSM just lollygag right into, time after time after time...

Even the dumbest dog gets gun shy after a few close calls. But, not a liberal.

There has been talk by the techies that Twitter could ban him? Or other wise social media could squelch him all together? They have control.

That...would be dangerous. Because you know what the media is so fond of saying.."Democracy dies in darkness"

Liberals are incredibly stupid! They bitch at others and then do the exact same thing and don't understand why anybody notices? It's a mental illness.

I'm in favor of outlawing the Democrat party. How's that, Liberal idiots? Nobody ever interfered with Obama, even when he gave Iran A PALLOT OF HUNDRED DOLLAR BILLS

Well yeah, but that was a smart move. Sure it was.
