Having problems making old time fudge.
Following the recipe to the tee.
Second time trying to make the same recipe.
It won't set up at all.
Use to make the same thing when I was a kid with no problems at all.
Living at 5,000 feet now.
I'm wondering if the recipe was printed wrong in the Betty Crocker cook book?
I'm almost to give up on cooking.

Seems like I have had that same problem? Don't know the solution? Got to be simple, maybe you didn't let it get hot enough or long enough. But that's how it is with fudge, sometimes it's soft and other times, it gets hard as a brick.

Good luck. Add enough walnuts!

Things boil at a lower temp at elevation may need to boil longer or hotter !
Do you have a candy thermometer ?

Neighbor came over and we discussed it. Found one item on the net to reduce the sugar by 5% and increase liquid to 15% plus boil longer. We're going to retry tomorrow and see what happens.
Didn't have a problem with the peanut brittle other than I almost burnt it because my thermometer cracked and it wasn't registering correctly. It wasn't my day for cooking.

That's the way I like my peanut brittle anyway. The fudge I could do without.

I'm done I quite! UNCLE!~! [Mad]
It harden in the pan big time. Seemed like I scrubbed for a half hour or so.
Made peanut brittle and it came out perfect.
So made a double batch of ginger crinkles cookies. Half for us and the other half for friends.
One more recipe to tackle. It was his mothers call a Peanut butter roll.
Made with powdered sugar, karo syrup. Layer peanut butter on top flatten rolled out sugar mixture then roll it up and slice it.
But I'm not trying it today. [Confused]
