Haven’t you heard he is a 4 time world champ?? I’m kidding Leonard, he is only the best caller in the world in his eyes. Now that Jim destroyed worlds for what it used to be Al has made his own nations calling championship. Three regions, whoever has the most point after the three hunts is the TRUE world champ. These are Al’s words not mine, he set this up just so he can continue his own legacy. It’s a joke and it’s setup for big money guys or guys who make a living hunting coyotes for tv or whatever it may be.

I'm not picking on ya.

Here's my view, based on several decades of competitive contest hunts. There is much skill involved in setting up for success, choosing certain gear, economizing, utilizing your time most effectively....and so on.

But, when one team has access to private, prime virgin ground, anybody can look like a champ if you shoot reasonably well.
edit: oh, and offering to split prize money with the land owner

I could probably expand on that quite a lot, but who gives a shit any more?

Good hunting. El Bee

Yes sir I totally agree with you on that. Last season was the worst I have seen it with private land hunters, worlds was won in Texas, best of the West was won in Texas and the Arizona championship was also won in Texas. Since then contest have changed their rules, best of the West is nm only, I heard rumor the az championship is gonna be az only, the local contest here in Safford is now az only.

I don’t give two fucks about the buckles, that’s not why I do it. I’m competitive by nature, coyote hunting is already fun and competition makes it even more fun.

I can't knock it, at this point, even though I haven't entered a contest in ten years. I'm not even going to knock the buckles, they meant something once upon a time. Although, the only one I ever actually wore was the first one. It's easy to pupu this stuff now, but back then, I used to invest a lot. We worked hard and sometimes got lucky. I have to say that I enjoyed it, at the time.

I don't think it's any different than tournament bass fishing. Even so, we had a couple of cheaters, for belt buckles.

Good hunting. El Bee

I really enjoy doing 1 or 2 contest a year. I enjoy the work that goes in before the hunt, the run and gun style of calling for contest. Checkin is usually a good time as well, seeing friends you might not see otherwise or meeting new people who you would have never met otherwise.

And let’s be honest who doesn’t enjoy a day and a half of calling none stop and seeing if you can beat your own personal record and the rest of the field??
