Who among us is this 220swift guy, from Oklahoma, yet? And why did he think I needed to know this stuff?

But, what caught my eye immediately, a seminar by the one and only Byron South. Sure to be worth the price of admission.

Were they kicked out of Globe or what? I don't keep up.

Good hunting. El Bee

I'm just pissed they are mucking up one of my favorite areas. That's all we need is another 100 Foxpros blasting Lightning jack all weekend.

With what I gather from Earthwalker all the decent hunting areas are nothing but smoldering ashes.
You know every little town in Nevada has monthly contests as it is. But another large group of foxpro hunters will just make the calling that much more interesting, not.

The north part of Nevada has burnt from the Martin Creek to the South FK of the Owyhee. The South Sugarloaf burnt from the East side of the South FK of the Owyhee to almost Jarbidge NV. Martin Creek fire was 500k plus acres and the Sugarloaf is 235K acres. You add it up.

As far as burns, I don't think it's an absolute boner killer. There are still pockets where survivors congregate and I'm not sure how many actually die and whether they are capable of deducing their best course of action? Say, 50 miles away might be pretty good but how many go that way or is it like herding cats? You just never know and as long as the water is still where it was and the rabbits dig up and things smooth out, then it's like any weather phenomena. It's surprising how soon after a violent storm passes that they resume whatever they were doing and in the case of fire, make do the best they can.

Anyway, like has been said about old growth and Yellowstone; maybe those fires were the best thing to happen in a long time? Personally, I don't know enough to have an opinion on that issue but I do know that some people claim fires are not always a bad thing.

Good hunting. El Bee

I saw in the reg. that out of staters couldn't get grey fox and bobcats in Nevada. That's not very friendly. For a guy that's never seen a ringtail cat, I ask how big do the get and can you call them like a bobcat? We don't have them here in Okie land and where I hunt we don't even have fox in the wild, they all live in town. There hell on city cats. LoL

Ringtail are a cousin to the raccoon . relatively small a big one can get 3.5 lbs. generally smaller than a house cat I have seen them but don't know if you can call them they are a nocturnal critter. Hunt Arizona we let visitors kill everything ! LOL

Thanks Paul!
I wonder if you can call them like a coon, back around my part of the country we call coons all hours of the day. Calling coons is a a lot of fun, you no if there coming within 6 minutes If they ain't there in that time then pick up and move to another den tree. When they come its hot and fast and if you blink it will be all over.

Eddie, if I were you, I would not waste much time on ring tail cats. I have hunted Arizona and Nevada pretty seriously since the late 1960's. I think I have seen 3 ring tail cats in that time?

None of the three were called, I just saw them either crossing the highway at night. All of them were in northwestern Arizona.

I think if you were to try to call them, intensionally, first I wouldn't know the sound, maybe a mouse squeak but in the daytime, it would be a total waste of time, since they are extremely nocturnal and I have never explored the conditions where that is legal, except the rules make it as difficult as possible.

Forget it.

Then, I am reminded of the time Dick and I said "ok" to his young brother, who saw a large hawk on a branch up high on the side of a mountain. At that time, there were not the blanket restrictions against harming raptors that there are now, but still, we were quail hunting and we thought we sent him off on a wild goose chase. A couple hours later, he came back with that redtailed hawk and we were kind of flabbergasted. So, I can envision a scenario where our friend Eddie goes to Elko on the PM hunt and kills a double on ring tailed cats.... just to rub my nose in it. We shall see. (gulp)

Good hunting. El Bee

edit: PS I got another invite today, they must really like me?

Well Paul, that could be like calling badgers, in most cases, they are just there, a fortunate situation. That also applies to every lion I ever called. Just prey distress, (before Foxpro) and bingo, just happen to setup near a lion.

Anyway, it's all a smorgasbord, you never know what will respond but killing the first coyote you see, sometimes it means you don't notice a cat, coming in or leaving, since they abandon stealth when walking away from being called in. If you get my meaning.

Good hunting. El Bee

With Lion the area is the key lay ups , multi mountain convergence etc. ! I have called coati on multiple occasions ! If you call a Lion on the desert floor he was just crossing on his way to a new mountain ! Checking
on his ladies !
