Well, now that you mention it, we should have checked your ID, I'm not sure you're old enough for this group? Old farts, pretty much sums it up.

If it wasn't for Idaho Dave dragging our average age way down,
we would all be on Medicare and AARP supplemental programs. It's pretty much the Gray Haired Army.

No, actually, I can't say? Based on experience, most of these guys have quite a bit of "time in grade". But I'm just guessing?

Happy birthday earthwarker!
I'll turn 61 in June, after having my knee replaced I feel a whole lot better these days. What got me is after getting the knee fixed my lower back problems are just about gone.

Thanks everyone.
2 more summers on the mountain and I can pull the plug.
I'm up every morning between 0430-0500.
I'm moving everyday as best as I can.
Have the new knee and hip now. Need a new shoulder but not brave enough for that surgery.
At work now I'm one of the old timers, glad I'm still a youngster on here.
I"m back to work staring at walls now. To much rain to to make a try for the mountain top and I have to use my own truck. So waiting for drier weather.
Have a happy belated birthday to those that have April birthdays.

My pool man had a shoulder surgery last summer. I just saw him back on the job last week, so apparently that's a major recovery? It must be a big deal because he just sold the business and he was guiding the new guy around last week. Today's the day, so we will see if the new owner shows up by himself, but still, he must be not 100% if he's bailing out? He's in his fifties. Anyway, shoulder surgery must be a major thing?

But that's the way I feel about my back. I could have it done, but Damn, sawing on my spine does not motivate me at all!

Surgeries as to pain what is the worst
#1 Shoulders
#2 Knees
#3 Hips
I've got 2 out of 3. Know a lady that had a heart attack got over that then had shoulder surgery. She said she'd do the heart attack again over shoulder surgery.

You lose a lot of motion can't lift above your shoulder height and nothing over 25lbs for a couple of years. That is some of the reasons I keep putting it off. I need to get back into the weights and bands to get some strength and muscle built back up. That will help with some of the pain.
Mine started with a mild frontal dislocation. Never want to feel a bad dislocation.

had a friend that had back surgery after years of miserable pain following that surgery had a morphine pump installed located in his abdomen that's drips morphine directly on the affected vertebrae. asked the doctor what can be done, doctor said without a time machine nothing ,you need to go back and never have that first surgery. If at all possible never cut your back.

Its hard to know when you should have Surgery and when you shouldn’t. I had a Doctor say to me once you’ll know when it’s time for Surgery the pain will out weigh the thought of Surgery. I went years with a bad knee. Just dealt with it... it just got more and more painful until finally I couldn’t deal with the pain anymore. Plus my wife was tired of listening to me complain. HaHa Had Surgery on it about 4 years ago. Pain gone!!!!!!! Feels like I never had the problem in the first place. I know that best case but the only regret I have is not doing it years earlier could have saved myself some grief.....

I guess I could say the same thing about my knee surgery. I had two arthroscopic surgeries which flushed out some crumbled bone but finally had the knee replacement. Painful recovery! But now, it's something that never bothers me, except it makes noise when I walk. I went back to that surgeon about another issue several years ago and he was very excited about my results and asked permission if he could do another set of X-rays to demonstrate the way it should turn out if everything goes right. So, I did.

However, I know two people that have been butchered very badly by back surgeries. One woman has a section in the middle of her back that seems to be completely missing, about the size of a regulation football. And, they installed a morphine pump, but it just about the worst possible location in her back, preventing her from sitting in any kind of chair. She eventually complained and they relocated it to the side. The other guy is mercifully dead, but he had four surgeries, each an attempt to correct problems. He also had a pump, on demand.

So, that's all I know about back surgeries. I also know that when I went to a back surgeon, he told me that as long as medication was effective, that I shouldn't ever consider surgery. I take a 30mg timed release morphine sulfate twice a day, but I'm prescribed 3. Then I have hydrocodone 325/10 for what they call breakout pain; a one month supply lasts me 3-4 months. Both are controlled substances; can't be mailed and have to show ID when I pick it up. I can't say that I don't have some occasional pain....like a few weeks ago when I went bowling! Damn! But I think I mainly pulled a muscle that time, I am a lot better now.

So, I don't really feel like a invalid, I know there are people with painful conditions. Same with the Crohn's, the doctors all go out of their way to mention that I'm healthy, in spite of the diagnosis. I guess they mean, heart is strong, blood pressure normal and other indications, like don't need Viagra, for instance. Whereas, some people with what I have are pretty sick puppies. I know things could be a lot worse.

Yes Paul. But you know the stigma involving doctors prescribing narcotics. I think most of them are afraid of being blamed if a patient strays from recommended dosages. Actually afraid of bureaucratic wonks hammering them, second guessing them and preferring that their patients be in constant pain just so nobody gets blamed in this OPIOD crisis the Media is screaming about.

I very recently had a concern because I waited until I was down to 3 pills before reordering. Then, I had no idea that my doctor was out of the office for a week, apparently a vacation? Well, this is where those that are supposed to cover for colleagues but are afraid to stick their neck out, better to wait until primary care physician returns. Chickenshit, but understandable.

So, it was my own fault, but with this stuff, you don't just go without for a few days, tough guy though I am. I wrote a rather critical memo and somebody that screens such things replied and passed it on. in my bitch, I complained about the meager 30 day supply, when other people could get 3 months and have their medications mailed to them, but I had drive down and show ID, etc.

But, I'm normally a casual pill taker but not with narcotics. I take it as directed, when directed. They check and they know that I don't reorder at 30 days, I reorder at 40 days, but then, I gotta have it. This withdrawal situation ain't funny. And, guess what? It happened last year when I was in Oklahoma. Not good, you know?

I'm a confirmed pill popper these days. Can't be helped.

Good hunting. El Bee

I've got lower back problems.
Spine sliding off the pelvis.
I take tramadol almost like candy (some days)
Found another great chiropractor in Challis. He said he can almost reverse the problem by working on the pelvis and I can't believe it's helping.
Plus I bought a silly little seat called back joy. It cradles the pelvis and doesn't look like your butt will fit it. It has helped too.
I was so close to having surgery at one time but so glad I didn't. Also L2,3,4 or so look terrible and every doctor can't believe I'm still walking. They look like a zig zag on a x-ray.
I'm losing weight and that has helped a lot and doing a lot of moving.

I was just talking to this girlfriend last night, in fact. She watches the time and uncorks a bottle of wine at 5 o' clock. I found out that she calls me "a counter". It annoys her that I know how many drinks I pay for at dinner. Doesn't say it, but you can tell she would rather if I joined in.

Anyway, I told her I was thinking about it and I haven't had a glass of wine since Thanksgiving when I went with my daughter and son in law to visit a few wineries up by them. They are sort of incompatible in that he likes red and she seems to favor white. Nothing like the gulf between me and Patti. I haven't even had a beer, much less hard liquor since the same week end. It's not a conscious effort on my part, I just don't think about it.

I just need to watch it b, (I just saw two opossums walk by my slider, wonder what they are doing out this late in the morning?) ...watch my intake because one drink kind of affects me, combined with the medications. In other words, I feel a little high, besides not being used to it. Good I wasn't driving.

It's like this, drinkers are much happier with other drinkers. Patti doesn't know quite what to make of me, besides the fact that I'm a "counter." Which I never knew about myself? I know one thing, drinking in a steakhouse or a bar is ridiculously expensive! You can buy a twelve pack for the price of one Cadillac Margarita! I have never understood drinking in an establishment, bar or whatever?

>update: Both opossums went back the other way, not together. Wonder what the hell that was about? Both small, for sure not full grown, maybe litter mates? They definitely looked a little lost.

So, Patti can sure run up a tab! I'm not sure she's worth it? But, very tall, I kind of like that.... I'll be damned! Just came by again, one of them! Definitely lost. Poor things. I have a couple cans of cat food.

Good hunting. El Bee

edit: I sprinted over to the other door and he scooted along the fence. Guess where he went? He looked at me and then ducked Into the tortoise cave! I bet they are living in there? It's roomy enough for everybody.
