Then this happened last week. I caught the biggest trout of my life.
 -

I was still riding the high when about a half hour later I caught an even bigger one. This trout is 3 feet long!!! Needless to say I'm one happy camper. Hope everyone's summer is going well. Life in Montana is great!!!

If you squint just right, it looks a bit like a white sea bass? I'm assuming that is a Lake Trout cranked up from the bottom?

Released? Downrigger?

Good hunting. El Bee

Yes they are Lakers. Wanted to release the first one but the trip up from the bottom killed him. [Frown] The second I'm inviting home to reside on my living room wall.

I think we can make Troy Tour Director and Guide for the Montana Region. It won't pay much but will look good on his resume.

All in favor, raise your hands!

See? That was easy!

Good hunting. El Bee

edit: PS correct me if I'm wrong, ok? I have always been of the opinion to release large trout. Of course, for me, they are few and far between but lunkers aren't really very good eating like pan fried 8-10 inchers. I've never found a satisfactory method of fileting trout to eliminate the gazillions of microscopic bones.
I'm so "retro" I still remove the head before frying, and for the present, it's not illegal in The People's Republik. LB

Leonard, I'd have to assume you are correct. I am not much of a fish eater. I do make exceptions for walleye and burbot-ling, and several ocean fish, but other than that, most fish are safe around me. I actually can't stand the taste of trout or salmon so all of them go right back in the water, unless it's going to die from being caught or is going on the wall. Unfortunately the first lake trout I caught actually arrived on the seen dead. The trip up from the bottom of the lake apparently killed it. The captain of the boat says it happens now and then, but is rare in his experience. He seemed genuinely surprised. The second fish (the really big one) is being invited home to reside on my wall. My opportunities to fish for lake trout are super limited so the odds of me catching a bigger one are virtually non-existent. I want to look at that fish for the rest of my days and remember one of the best trips of my life.
