Apparently this guy was discharged from the Army? He has said he's some kind of convert to Islam. Which means, of course, he needs to kill innocent people.

I was watching The Five yesterday and that Dink, Juan Williams was in a dither because the perp had ammunition in his checked baggage along with some kind of firearm.

I'm not really a fan of air travel but I have traveled with firearms, as recently as a month ago. There is no restrictions on checking ammo with the firearm. Once you retrieve your gun, you can walk all your baggage to the curb and wait for ground transportation.

I agree, at this point, there is no security, nor is there as you drive away. Nor, is there as you gain your front door. At what point do we stop? Should we need a police escort until we are tucked into bed?

One thing for sure, the checked weapon is the safest baggage in existence, bar none. I'm sure some Liberal, some where is hatching a scheme to regulate firearms on airplanes. Next he should worry about firearms in private vehicles. That will really give him the willies.

edit: by the way, there used to be quite a few restrictions on ammunition. At one time, at least Internationally, you couldn't have more that a certain amount, like 5 pounds? Packaging is also regulated, must be in factory packaging, but nobody knows what that looks like, so your handloads are approved. A month ago I had a handgun and 50 rounds of ammunition in the same padlocked suitcase. The agent at the ticket counter didn't even look at it. They just have you sign a declaration, an orange postcard size form, that the firearm is unloaded, and put it inside the case.

Seriously, I can see the control freaks requiring that firearms and ammo be in separate bags.
Should solve everything.

You don't understand, koko. That's what they came up with right after 9-11, and I was flying to Europe within two weeks of 9-11, with firearms. Yes, that was their rule, at the time, CAN'T BE WITH THE FIREARM, NO EXCEPTIONS !

Then, the problems began; arrivals without ammo, arrivals without the needed firearm, transfers accomplished and other transfers lost or misplaced. I had luggage missing returning from Canada, but not firearms, and it was dropped off on mmy front door, (I forget?) two or three days later. etc.

Anyway, I think cooler heads prevailed and they couldn't think of a reason, a logical reason, why you couldn't travel with the firearm and secure ammo in the same package. That's the way it has been for quite a while now. Never a problem, 'til this asshole.

But, no doubt, Liberals will try to make it as inconvenient as possible to travel with firearms. We have to make them justify whatever regulations they propose. None of this, that's the way it's going to be, regulations.

You know, maybe it's not well known but every season, thousands of hunters travel to points all over the world with there firearms. Who knows, maybe it's millions? But these people have rights that override Liberal fears.

Good hunting. El Bee

edit: besides, koko: think about it. The asshole could have walked into the bathroom with TWO SEPARATE BAGS and opened them one at a time; locked and loaded. Solves NOTHING!

I am also concerned this unfortunate incident will make it difficult to travel with firearms.

Speaking of 9/11, I traveled to Texas on a hunt in 2002. Never had a problem in Newark Airport, believe it or not.

Flying back out of Dallas / Fort Worth Airport, my buddy sees the security bag check personnel (I think this was pre TSA) going through his luggage. He gets angry and starts yelling at them. I had to calm him down. I told him I want them to check. He said they had no right. Etc.

When they got to my bag I informed them there were rifle rounds in the boots which were tucked away in one of my bags. They were appreciative. A little cooperation goes a long way sometimes.

I'm mostly resentful at the rag heads but TSA, some of them definitely have an attitude problem. They can turn a misunderstood instruction into something like a prison all cavity inspection.

I head what the guy said about holding my arms up for the time travel machine, and innocently asked; "When"? and he interpreted it as some kind of challenge. I had thought he might give a signal, like okay; wait until I say do it NOW, or something?

Then there was the time in Phoenix where they threw my guncase around like it was trash, going through the scanner. Then he made me open it up in front of about 50 gawkers, and gasps. His attitude told me what he thought about hunters.

I have a knee replacement. I don't know what it is but sometimes I confuse the guy at the door and the one with the wand? Whatever it is, I still have the feeling I'm being treated like the chain gang in Cool Hand Luke. I guess that makes me wrong?

Like I said, I blame the arabs and any muslim I happen to see, and BTW, I am seeing more of them in Walmart. Used to never see them, now just about every visit. But they look like American converts, to me, most of them. But, they get no friendly gauze from me.

Good hunting. El Bee
