Anyone coming to Idaho for Big game seasons best check first where the fires are at. Teepee Spring fire jumped the main Salmon River yesterday and running north. Whole are being shut down. Elevenmile fire west of Challis is now 10k acres and growing. Moved slightly north and west yesterday. The fire fighters are saying winter snows will put this fire out. To many fires up north to list but it isn't good.

Nez Perce is closing down the forest except for the Palose Ranger district. Just read that the Panhandle is shutting down the whole forest from border to border. Better pray for heavy rain and then snow cause they ain't going out until then. Almost of repeat of 1910.

I don't remember any years as bad as this. In 1988, the same year as the Yellowstone fires, it was bad, but most of those fires in Idaho were burning in wilderness and NF backcountry areas. Never seen a year where they closed down millions of acres either.
Many of the fires this year are on private land and the personal loss is much higher.
It was actually drier last summer, but this year it was dry and than we had a lightening storm go through in early August that set everything ablaze.
We got a sprinkle of rain yesterday and it sure cleared the air out. A couple of days of lower temps and an inch of rain would put a real douse on many of these fires. Possibility of rain on Wednesday... Keeping my fingers crossed.

I hope the rains come soon for everyone up there. We finally got some rain yesterday and what a difference it made it the particulate in the air. Was a crisp and clear morning this morning.

North Idaho hasn't been this bad in a long time. But the south half has been this bad or worse in years past. 9 years ago it was 3 months of smoke instead of 1 month.

Nope not with this drought and heat still here. I'm surprised there hasn't been more. BLM/FS dumped most of their people Oct 3rd.

4200 acres now. Went out to eat got away from the house and could look out and the Walker was blowing up good. Way to much smoke for the 14th of Oct at 7 pm. It's acting like it's August.

Read this morning where the Idaho State Fire Marshal is extending the close burning season beyond the Oct 20. Oct which is the usual end of the closed season. About time some pulled their head out of it and got some common sense. At least we're clear today no yellow color to the air.

At 0730 I was in a PITA snow storm at 9100. Been scraping the window a couple of times last week. Now all those tall mountain have their winter hats on.
