Well,... a dumbass black kid (is that relevant?) decided he was going to try to represent ISIS in a suicide bombing on Fort Riley yesterday. Fort Riley is the home of the First Infantry Division - the vaunted Big Red One - and is about a half-hour east of my front door.
Poor, misguided youth inadvertently had been conspiring with undercover FBI agents to create a half-ton car bomb that he intended to take onto post and detonate to kill "people of authority". He was taken into custody yesterday at the same moment he was realizing that his car bomb was a dud, just like him.
Last evening, we were out trying to work that coyote complaint and, during the time we were calling, three different flights of Blackhawk and Apache helicopters flew over us enroute back to the post - all with the 6th Air Cavalry. I don't know that there was any connection between the two, but it made me stop and think about how close this "issue" has come to home, with an attempted IED terrorist strike right here in the literal heart of America, and to see what appears to be the Commanding General calling all their assets back in from neighboring bases, i.e., McConnell Air Base, Forbes Field.
I have the mindset that where there's one, there's more and as much of a dipshit as this dipshit is being portrayed as in the media, there's always the chance that he had associates.
Abilene held a marathon this morning - one in which the winners get points to qualify for the Boston Marathon.
Kinda makes you think, huh?
I don't know if they stepped up any security, but I did see more state troopers in that end of town yesterday than usual.
I had to abandon plans to work that complaint this morning because the race literally encircled the area where I would have been sneaking around in ACU's carrying an AR15. Kinda thought that might be one of those things I had no business doing.

You would be well within your rights as an American citizen? What's the problem? And, you are an ex EMT besides being a Federal Employee.
Go do it and let us know.

Well, no bombs today and the race went off without a hitch. Or, a boom.
hey Leonard, I was visiting with an older guy the other day who said something that reminded me of you. Like you, he speaks his mind. And, like a lot of older guys, he'll give you his opinion even when you don't ask for it or want it. Anyway, I had said something and he made a remark about how any nutjob will be able to carry a gun now. I corrected him about how that won't be until July and he says that he hasn't had no need for no damned license to carry for 70-odd years and he don't see no need for it now. Then he says the LB-ism, and I just had to LOL. he says, "Don't matter anyways. Fact is, the cops'll fuck with you whenever they want to and however much they want to and gettin' 'em unfucked from you's gonna take at least two lawyers and most of your life savings."
I don't know why, but I just thought of you. LOL

Everybody has several reputations, at work, with the neighbors, family and in this case, online. I'm really a teddybear, Lance.
