As a lifelong Duck fan it was pretty special getting into the playoff and winning a semi-final game. We'll see what happens next Jan 12th.

Oregon runs such a fast-paced offense that it had those FSU guys sucking wind hard in the first quarter. They really laid the wood to FSU in the second half.

We watched the Ducks play the WSU Cougars back in September and it was a very close game and not decided until the last couple minutes. At that point, I didn't think Oregon had it in them to make into the playoffs. Watching Mariotta though was sweet. That dude is blazing fast and at the college level, his arm is nothing to scoff at either.

If we still had that silly BCS system, we would have gotten to watch FSU play Alabama for the national championship. Now we get to see a real championship decided on the field. Having 8 teams make the playoffs would be even better.

Agreed Lonny.

When the Ducks beat Michigan State, I thought boy howdy, then they struggled to get past Wazzu ?

I think it's all about getting hot late in the year and hanging on to a top ranking along the way. Did you guys go up to Pullman and watch that game in Martin stadium ?

Yes we did Dave.

We used to go to a game or two each year back in the day when the Cougs were legit, but hadn't been to a game in many years. When we saw Oregon was coming to play in Pullman, I wanted to see the Ducks and Mariotta play more than the Cougs.

Glad we went to the game now that the Ducks are in the championship game and Mariotta won the Heisman.

Used to be, OU and O State were full of CA players that weren't recruited by USC. Still?

Good stuff Lonny. I've actually always been a 1/2 azz Wazzu fan, liked their colors and they play on the Palouse. Historically it's a tough place to play.

I think visiting teams get hypnotized by the miles of wheat fields on the bus ride from Spokane.. [Big Grin]

We've only seen Mariota once. That was October of 2012 @ Autzen stadium. My wife and daughter are both in love with him..Lol

Leonard, I bet 1/2 the Ducks roster is LA kids.

If Oregon is doing what they're doing with USC rejects, the Trojans better reevaluate their recruiting process. I think it's more likely that since that cheating POS, Pete Carrol, suddenly decided he wanted to leave USC in front of a scandalous investigation, the playing field might be a little more even as far as recruiting goes.

Interesting. There were three players that probably live less than ten miles from me.

edit: taking short break from slaving over a hot stove

edit: yeah, 21 from Oregon, not too bad? Or, is it?

I don't think 21 from in state is too shabby for a team from the N/W playing for the college championship ?

Most are Portland metro guys. Keenen Lowe #7 is a pretty decent receiver out of Portland. #24 Thomas Tyner is a running back who should see significant time in the game, is from Aloha which is a suburb out of Portland.

I mention those guys as they should make some plays and be recognizable in the big one.

I'm cool..

Dave,
I, too, was cheering for the Ducks! I dislike FSU and Winston as much as I do Tom Brady and cheating Belichek and the Patriots.

I really don't think Urban Meyer's bunch can hang with them. Mariota,(sp?), is a special kind of quarterback. Let's hope his skill set works in the NFL.

I will be on the Duck's bandwagon this week, too!

Well, they need a little help.

(via email)
No matter which side you are on in the matter of renaming the Washington Redskins, this is funny. This guy is hilarious…

Here is an e-mail sent to Clarence Page of the Chicago Tribune after an article he published concerning a name change for the Washington Redskins.

Dear Mr. Page...

I agree with our Native American population. I am highly insulted by the racially charged name of the Washington Redskins. One might argue that to name a professional football team after Native Americans would exalt them as fine warriors, but nay, nay. We must be careful not to offend, and in the spirit of political correctness and courtesy, we must move forward.

Let's ditch the Kansas City Chiefs, the Atlanta Braves and the Cleveland Indians. If your shorts are in a wad because of the reference the name Redskins makes to skin color, then we need to get rid of the Cleveland Browns.

The Carolina Panthers obviously were named to keep the memory of militant Blacks from the 60's alive. Gone. It's offensive to us white folk.

The New York Yankees offend the Southern population. Do you see a team named for the Confederacy? No! There is no room for any reference to that tragic war that cost this country so many young men's lives.

I am also offended by the blatant references to the Catholic religion among our sports team names.Totally inappropriate to have the New Orleans Saints, the Los Angeles Angels or the San Diego Padres.

Then there are the team names that glorify criminals who raped and pillaged. We are talking about the horrible Oakland Raiders, the Minnesota Vikings, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Pittsburgh Pirates!

Now, let us address those teams that clearly send the wrong message to our children. The San Diego Chargers promote irresponsible fighting or even spending habits. Wrong message to our children.

The New York Giants and the San Francisco Giants promote obesity, a growing childhood epidemic. Wrong message to our children.

The Cincinnati Reds promote downers/barbiturates. Wrong message to our children.

The Milwaukee Brewers. Well that goes without saying. Wrong message to our children.

So, there you go. We need to support any legislation that comes out to rectify this travesty, because the government will likely become involved with this issue, as they should. Just the kind of thing the do-nothing Congress loves.

As a diehard Oregon State fan, my wife and I, with all of this in mind, suggest it might also make some sense to change the name of the Oregon State women's athletic teams to something other than "the Beavers (especially when they play Southern California. Do we really want the Trojans sticking it to the Beavers???)

I always love your articles and I generally agree with them. As for the Redskins name I would suggest they change the name to the “Foreskins” to better represent their community, paying tribute to the dick heads in Congress

The defense just didn't have a solution for the O-Line and that Elliott kid.
