I'm in the process of going to a new computer out of necessity right now. I have Carbonite back up and the restore process SUCKS. At the current rate, it will take five days to complete a 200gb backup. Their servers are hooked up to a dial up connectionn.

MY Bad. The problem is I lacked mental comprehension of how big a gigabyte actually is. I did the math and I'm getting a great download speed of 33.3 MB/second. I just didn't think it should take over an hour to download 1 percent of my personal files. We have a ton of pictures backed up on carbonite. The job will be done in about three or four more days.

Yup, that is a good download speed..

A couple of years ago, I just installed a secondary hard drive and backup to that one.. It's fast , cheap, and convenient.

Check out Drop Box. I keep all my important stuff in there. You can save things there like a folder as you go along. You can access the files from computer or phone with their app.

I just use a portable hard drive for backups, file storage, picture storage, etc. They are cheap enough and usually have fast data transfer rates with the USB connection. My Seagate Free Agent Go fits nicely in my shirt pocket.
