I test drove a customer's 2005 Ford Exploder today and hated it. It is a drive by wire system that has way too much tip in. I would find this vehicle impossible to properly control in really rough terrain. The engineers probably made it that way to make it feel real sporty. The pedal travels about 1/2 an inch with nothing happening. Another 1/8 of an inch and your off to the races. I relize that most of these SUVs never see a dirt road, but I'm sure a few have tried it. This must be another one of Ford's better ideas. It is a shame that we make such piss poor cars and trucks today.

Az,
I ran a Ford Store here in my hometown from '95 until '97 with the intention of eventually buying it.

When they switched from the 'old' style F-150 to the new body style in '96 with the '97 model, they lost about 1200 pounds in payload capacity. When I asked the guys at the KC Regional Office, they said they were targeting the 'urban' 4X4 customer--obviously those guys that never get off of the asphalt.

If you want to haul or pull anything these days, you have to step up to the Super Duty in 3/4 or 1 ton to do it.

Now, I have learned that they are planning on taking the V-10 option away from the F-250 and F-350 and only having it be an option for the F-450 and bigger--a big mistake in my opinion.

The Explorer used to be a good vehicle--I had two '92's at one time--one was my bank vehicle, and the other my personal vehicle. They were good off road as well as on the road.

Darn shame as they used to be great!
