49, I know you have thoughts on this and I'm interested in hearing them.
NY cop shoots hostage
Not being privy to all the details that LE types are, seems like the shooter should have just backed out after seeing it was a hostage situation. I wasn't there though. I'd hate to be the cop. That gonna be a heavy burden to bear.

Near as I can tell, cops are trained that when a gun is pointed at them, they draw their weapon and shoot, come what may. Never mind that there are those among us that will point a gun with no intention of pulling the trigger. I'm not sure I agree with it, but that's what I see. Forget about holding a gun on a cop, it won't work. Apparently, they believe it's worth the chance, nothing to lose, etc. Well, I don't claim to completely understand how a cop thinks.

From the (more than a few) LI street cops I know, they are required to 'qualify' with their service handguns only once a year. And many of them don't shoot much, or even at all, for the 11 months in between...

Why was a cop in the middle of a hostage situation? I believe the other female that was sent out to the ATM, informed them that there was a hostage. Should have never happened.
