If you call the coyotes in close, you won't NEED a high dollar range finder.

Baby Robin's, yes and I now believe there are three of them in that nest. Momma Robin charges me every time I get too close. She thinks she is a Lion.

We don't have Robins. We do have Mocking Birds, Scrub Jays and Orioles. And several different LBJ's. What bird watchers call; little brown jobs. Plus a few resident mourning doves.

But, Robins were just about the only song bird in Minneapolis, as a kid.

Two years ago, a pair of Mocking Birds built a nest in my scrub oak. (again this year, in fact) anyway, two babies, one much more developed and left the nest a couple weeks earlier than the other. But the one left behind fell out. I picked him up and put him back 4 or 5 times and got tired of searching for him, but the parents helped me find him. I put him in a plastic barrel, under a tree and the parents were in and out of that barrel for quite a while before junior eventually flew out. More than a week, I think? Doing my part.

Tons of robins in these parts, and they're actually one of my least favorite birds. Sometimes, they just look so "ratty". Like they're having a bad hair day or something.

I love seeing the orioles. They hit the hummingbird feeder from time to time, but they're a rare treat.

I THOUGHT we had mocking birds, but after doing a little research, they're brown thrashers. They mock other birds' sounds too.
Funny story, my old lab Rowdy used to rear up on the fence and bury his head in the honey suckle to find them. But there'd always be one playing sentry in the maple tree behind him. It'd fly down and go to work on his butt until he'd chase it off, then he'd go back up there and the same scenario would play out again. Cheap entertainment. [Wink]

I don't know much about birds, but this weird bird showed up in the yard the other day. This was after two days of hard winds and he had obviously escaped his home and lost his way.

Dang thing was happy as heck to be caught by a human again and was pretty content to sit on anyones shoulder.

Duck, the kids made me do that and if you've ever had a bird sitting on your shoulder that shits about every 60 seconds you will know your time is limited.. [Wink]
