Found this and thought I would share. The action actually begins at 5:30, so you can forward to that. Looks like he recorded himself and there is plenty of fist-pumping, but I know I would have celebrated more.
He shot the durn thing with a 20 gauge without any of those fancy sights or extended choke tubes. LOL.
Shot in Arizona and it looks legit to me.

I can only presume he was using a slug,a shotgun shooting shot, is prohibited under Arizona law for the taking of big game animals.

Vic; I could be wrong, but it's my understanding that we can now take cougar with standard issue shottie / coyote loads.

Way to go, Vic! You want another suicide on your conscience? (just kidding)
I want to believe, but? Some of the behavior is questionable.
Good hunting. LB
BTW, I caught the snarky little comment about "no extended choke tubes". Boy, all you guys, tough crowd.

Could be Koko, with the new night hunting regs, I know it's shotgun only and just in a few specified areas. The new regs aren't available online yet, so I was stating what the 2011-2012 regs had pretaining to shotguns and the taking of big game animals. The lion apparently was shot in march of 2010, so the no shot reg was in effect. Pretty good slug shooting with a 20 gauge bird gun with just a bead front sight. Oh man! Another cheap shot! Are you talking about my new EOTech holographic site? I'm really hurt!
I don't care. So far, I love it and plan on "ground sluicing" a coyote or two with it, should the situation present itself.
Good hunting. El Bee

Leonard, I like the Eotech, have one on my AR. I was using various forms of red dot sights, before red dot sights were cool.Back in 1988 I bought a custom S&W revolver built by Frank Glenn. I had the original Aimpoint red dot on it, damned thing was all most as big as the revolver itself. They have came a long way, from the one I first used, to the very small window affairs made by J point and docter....thinking of putting one on my glock 22.

Randy, I've seen that video somewhere, but can't rememebr where? I do seem to recall that the guy was military and he was hunting with permission on a military base. And yes, he was using slugs in his 20ga...

The comments say this was a coyote hunt that turned inot a lion hunt. I am just thinking out loud here, but who hunts coyotes with 20 gauge slugs? Unless of course, he was anticipating a lion?

Thats what I thought too,and then when he sluiced that cat again while it was performing its acrobatic leaps, I just presumed he didn't have slugs, but tossing shot?

Guys, read ALL the comments that go along with the video. Start from the first & work toward the most recent (there are 24pages of comments)
Here's a response by the guy who put the vid up, Page 22: quote: Give me a break, It was my third time ever coyote hunting. Where I was hunting and time of year I was required to wear blaze orange. I edited the time I was scanning for possible danger after the shot. I was really excited, due to that was the first time I have ever seen a mountain lion in the wild. I purchased the tag 2 days prior to experience. Not gonna lie, Luck had alot to do with the Kill sometimes I rather be lucky Hunting is being in right place at right time.
Page 23 quote: it was a slug round , and I used a cottontail call, like a lost fawn.
Can't you see the entrance wound at the end of the video? FF to 10:00 and take a look at the entrance wound. Also, you'll here him say "....right here on Fort Wachuka" or something similar I can't pronounce.
LUCKY? Fuck yeah!!!
Heck, if that were me, I'd be doing back handsprings like Mary Lou Retton @ the '84 Summer Games... [ January 26, 2012, 02:25 PM: Message edited by: knockemdown ]

I thought it was a slug judging by the wound. Also, definately a heart shot. The lion jumped around exactly like a coyote that has been shot low in the heart.

It could have been regulations, if it was on Fort Huichuca (sp)?
The military has their own rules, like Barry Goldwater Range, you have to attend an 8 hour class before you can roam around.

I assume regs on Fort Huachuca are similar to regs on most federal reserves. State regs apply AND then some. In my mind that accounts for the orange.
Right time, right place, and luck. All key factors in calling a lion. He's a goober, but I talk to myself all day long when I'm by myself. Like I told R.Shaw, thank God no video was rolling the day I got lucky.
Oh yeah, it's pronounced just like Fred spelled it the first time. [ January 26, 2012, 06:58 PM: Message edited by: jimanaz ]

When I rotated back to the states, from USAEUR they allow you to state a preference and I picked Fort Huichuca, which is the way I phonetically pronounce it. I got Fort Bliss, instead. Lucky me! This was about 1963, or so. You know, before manned flight.
But, I have hunted all around the property. I'd love to gain access.
Good hunting. LB

Agreed it looked like a slug wound. I am just wondering why a hunter would use 20 gauge slugs while going after coyote. Perhaps it's because he was a newbie and didn't have anything else, or didn't know any better?
I looked on the website Fred provided and didn't see anything about regulations for hunting on the Fort property. Though if thats indeed what the regs say then it's cut and dry.
Oh...hey Fred are you a Giant fan? [ January 27, 2012, 05:23 AM: Message edited by: 4949shooter ]

Yep, guess the slug gun part was another of the Fort's hunting regs??
Naw Nick, I'm not particularly a Giants fan. Even though I grew up playing baseball & football, I've kinda become disillusioned with pro sports in general. But I can still enjoy a good game from time to time, and this should be a good one. Considering that, I'll be rooting for the Giants as I fly home from Oklahoma Sunday night after a week of visiting with my Okie homenuggets...

Thanks, Nick! I look forward to this week all year long. Nice to see coyotes runnin' across open fields in the daytime. And the guys spoil the heck outta me...
Sorry for the sidetrack, Randy! That video is worth watching more than once!!! I find it so amazing how non-chalant that big cat approaches the call. Which leads to a question for you guys in the know. Is that behavior more a factor of the lion being called in on a 'restricted' military base, or is that how they come in real world calling situations? I know KJ & others have told me that sometimes a big tom bobcat will just come strolling into the call like he owns the joint, are lions any different???

I would say yes, based on the few lions I have called. They don't hunt in, or charge in, they seem to be fairly focused and direct, kinda like they own the place. I've killed a couple and was there on the light when my dad got one and my long time partner wounded one that got away. That is the impression I have based on these few events.
Good hunting. LB

LB, if you ever get out this way let me know and I’ll get you access. I hunt Huachuca on a regular basis and do fairly well. Hunting is limited to active duty military, retired military and DAC currently working on the fort. The down side is that you never know when an area is going to be closed for training AND you must register your weapon with the MP’s. [ February 12, 2012, 06:21 PM: Message edited by: JP ]

Leonard, thought you were joking when you said you would be here "tomorrow or Tuesday", then I read you are in Wilcox. Sorry! Anyway I don't know about Wilcox but yesterday the winds were pretty bad. Getting ready to go out again this morning. If'n you are serious about hunting on the fort let me know well in advance so I can check the training schedule. If you want to make a weekend of it, we have an extra bedroom.
