What do I think? Typical Liberal solution! The California Teachers Union is the most powerful in the state. They get a lot of sweetheart deals from the legislature already, like an awesome retirement that puts California damned near in bankruptcy! This state is so close to Socialism already, the only difference is the name. What we need is a ten year moratorium on Democrat officeholders. I'd vote for that! Fat chance!

Forgot to mention that the typical California "teacher" is unqualified, illiterate, and some type of minority but highly respected and highly compensated. Rhymes with Ribberal.

Now if we could just figure out why Asian kids are handing us our ass when it comes to education.
Perhaps if we had some grant money and could form a study group..............

...And they are very full of themselves. They think fucking society should revolve around their schedule. Out here, if you dont drop what your doing to accomodate a fucking teacher, they start crying and tell you how important their time is.
My wife handles insurance and it never fails...you ask a teacher to pay a fucking five dollar co-pay, they rant and rave about how they shouldnt have to pay a dime...cause theyre a teacher.

How can this be constitutional? And I mean California's constitution. Exempting a group of people will force others to pick up the slack.

Yesterday I was listening to the radio here in the Portland area. Right now teachers are among the highest paid in the country. The state took a poll asking people what the highest priority in the state is and they say it is education. There's a huge shortfall because the Democrats in Salem are spending far more than they take in but they say, and I don't for a second believe it, that most people are open to having their taxes raised in order to fund the schools. Like we're not taxed quite enough.

Seems like in every liberal state in the union education is a bottomless pit to throw money in. About 18 years ago a Republican was running for governor and he took a look at the schools and the endless cry for money. He stated that there is an entire layer of employees whose sole purpose is to pad union membership that could be eliminated and save the taxpayers millions if not billions.

Then there's the Department of Transportation. The state employs a few hundred highway engineers even tho Oregon hasn't built in a new highway in many years and when they do they hire outside firms to design and build them. Yeah, when these jobs are submitted and built someone oversees the work but what about the guys just sitting around picking their noses?

As an OSP Engineer with Verizon I had to attend a lot of kickoff meeting for state highway projects. Mostly repaving, etc. The average person would be dumbfounded to see what goes on. First there are the quotas. You have to have a certain number of females and minorities on any particular job and not just any minority. A job has to have a South Sea Pacific Islander in the job so if you're a Samoan or Guamanian you have it made. You can sit in the truck all day and listen to the radio and get paid just like the heavy equipment operators. And it doesn't stop there. The government has an employee that keeps track of all of the females and minorities and makes good money doing it. All of this adds huge sums of money to every project but, hey, we're diverse.

The teachers in Michigan are the same way. They think that society owes them everything.

The bastards are tighter than skin on a grape with their own money though.

My filter will not let me read this, but it sounds like a teacher's union must be pushing this.

Here in Kansas, unless you are an administrator, K-12 teacher's pay really sucks. Hardly any raises, except maybe $100 per year. I do have to say that if one sticks it out, the retirement is not too bad.

About 65% of Kansas' state budget is for education, and we can't even get that right. State is broke, and the school districts went to the KS Supreme Court to get more money...can't bleed the turnip...

Here is how dumb our formula is. School districts get money that is ONLY for capital improvements or capital outlay...can't be used for teacher's salaries, books, music or anything to benefit the students.

Some districts have hundreds of thousands, and in some cases millions sitting there for capital projects. Our rural school districts are shrinking, student wise, and the facilities they are in are adequate. BUT, that money can't be used to attract or incentivize new or existing teachers.

Case in point...my alma mater in Russell, Kansas, had $1.5 million in the capital fund...they spent ALMOST $1 million on a new turf football field in a town of 3,500...pretty stupid if you ask me. That money could not have been used for anything else.

The whole education system needs an overhaul...

Just in general, education is damned near criminal, top to bottom. No child left behind, as I understand it, is fucking retarded, and normal people can't understand any of their concepts?

The middle school system, high school, is like "no fail". You know, they arrive at answers and solutions via group discussions. You could have a dead kid in these classes and he would receive a passing grade.

Then, to top it all off, we have the snowflakes in our universities. I don't need to tell you about that. Just watch Watter's World, and check out the ignorant responses to simple questions. And, these kids are anti-American.

I don't know where it's going but with the cabinet choices by Trump, there may be some relief? It's difficult to understand how these freaking Liberals have managed to completely screw up our education system, top to bottom.

I've said it before and dare anybody to dispute me. A recent college graduate, right now is less educated than an average high school graduate from the 1960's. After Viet Nam, (I think) is when they learned to demonstrate for credit. I'm not wrong!

In fact, a kid taking shop classes and Home Ecc is far less corrupted than some kid getting brainwashed for four years in any damned college. I'm just glad I won't be around to see the America the Liberals have created. And, we just barely dodged the bullet with Hillary!

LB,
No Child Left Behind was one of the stupidest programs I have ever seen. I was on a local site council for a middle school during the Bush Administration.

The requirements of NCLB were downright insane. Instead of the teachers teaching the basics, they found themselves teaching to the NCLB test. Federal funding was tied to the percentage of students that showed proficiency in the core subjects.

During the first year of NCLB, the school set their ‘base’ with their first testing…THEN, they had to show continuous improvement each year, ending in a proficiency level the Feds wanted in the 93% to 98% level of ALL students taking the test.

That is all well and good, but the dumb feds INCLUDED special education students as well as Hispanic students that could not speak English in the mix. Their jacked up thinking was that special ed students and non-English speaking students should do as well as everyone else on a test given in English.

Bottom line was that proficiency levels in most public schools never even approached their insanely high levels.

The program was doomed from the start…one of those things that probably had good intentions when it started, but was a failure when implemented.

I think you are right. And, the part that I have never figured out, George W Bush was four square behind it! Boy they must have sold him a Bill of Goods, because in spite of what the Democrats say, he's no dummy, and the guy has integrity.

Democrats can't even spell the word and don't understand the concept.

Not defending lowsy teachers or the broken & pinko-commy infiltrated educational system AT ALL, but...

more & more, teachers are becoming those who are literally RAISING kids today! Without strong parental oversight & discipline at home, a teacher's job becomes more & more difficult.

Most every social issue in America has roots in one thing : the breakdown of the traditional nuclear family...
