NEWS ITEM

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has approved tougher rules of engagement for security forces grappling with the latest surge of Palestinian terror, ready for the security cabinet’s endorsement Sunday, Sept. 20.
First cleared with the State Attorney Yehuda Weinstein was the use of the Ruger rifle by Jerusalem police.
This weapon fires light 0.22 (5.59mm) bullets packed with a small amount of explosive which can cause injury within a 100m radius. It was used against Palestinian terrorists during their Second Intifada in 2000-2007.
Under the amended rules, police officers and soldiers may use the Ruger for live fire in life-threatening circumstances, such as the throwing of rocks and fire bombs which have plagued East Jerusalem in recent months.
This rule goes into force in all parts of Israel, since one of the primary inciters of the unrest on Temple Mount is the Northern Wing of the Israeli Muslim Movement, which represents Israeli Arab Muslim extremists.

If you're referring to the Ruger Precision Rifle (RPR) it's reviewed in the Oct. Outdoor Life.
Wayne Van Zwoll speaks (writes) highly of it but doesn't mention it being chambered in 5.56.

Mayhap they're just going to use Mini-14s ??

If you're referring to the explosive bullet that can cause injury to a `100m radius`......... doesn't sound like a fur friendly round.

I'm not referring to anything, Boss. I just want to know what they are talking about?

It says: "5.59mm". Maybe a typo? But, if it's a standard 5.56NATO, why use a Ruger?

I have a feeling this is something different? A 5.56 round is lethal well beyond 100 meters.

Good hunting. El Bee

I'm thinking not much, booger. Can't imagine anyone wanting to wear anything that makes them look like they're wearing patchwork pubic hair all over.

Speaking of which; I saw a guy a couple days ago. He had the most unfortunate curly kinky body hair all over his arms and back. To me, and I suspect to women particularly, it was really kind of "gross" and I use the word advisedly.

I used to hunt with a guy. I had never seen him with his shirt off before. His body hair was thick and like fur. I didn't say anything, but (trust me) it was the most unusual body hair I have ever seen. edit: and the color was like an Irish Setter; I kid you not!

I saw a woman once, (hispanic) and the hair on her forearms was about four inches long. Hung like the mane on a horse. She worked at the DMV.

So, back to the question. What is this special Ruger rifle? ANYBODY?

From what I can gather, the 5.59 is a typo. Apparently, The Israeli AG has given the go ahead to use a low powered sniper rifle(ruger) as a last ditch effort to defend against rock throwers and Molotov cocktail attacks. They have been instructedd to shoot the attackers in the legs(non lethal injury). The exploding bullet claim comes from frangible bullets that the government claims is non lethal past 100m. Obviously, who ever came up with this idea has hunted coyotes with a .223; because their intent is to create 'runners'...lol.

Makes perfect sense.

edit: and anybody ever witnessed old Bob running naked in the woods would swear they had just seen Bigfoot! Might as well cripple him in the leg, eh?
