When is your Furtaker episode going to air? Looks to be pretty awsome.

Yes, when will we see this?

I almost never watch hunting shows but would definitely make an exception for Cal.

BTW, I actually know the guy! He's awesome, for sure!

Good hunting. El Bee

To the best of my knowledge it will be the first week of Feb. I've seen the preview or rough copy and I think it's ok. I hope everyone enjoys it.

How did you hear about it Lone Howl? I hadn't really mentioned it up. I just thought I'd see if anyone noticed!

I got a glimpse of some footage from a secret source : ) Looks pretty good and wanted to give a shout out.

I just watched the trailer of YouTube, looks really good Cal. I cant wait to see it.

Posted by 3 Toes (Member # 1327) on January 18, 2015, 07:34 PM:

The trailer says episode 7, so I guess that would put it about the middle of February. I think it's a decent show. I think Foxpro has really stepped up the overall quality of their show and the episodes I have watched this year have been exceptionally good.

I look forward to watching it. I will say this for FoxPro they have one of the best video editors in the outdoor video business. He really does a great job.

Are the FoxPro episodes available on DVD, or will they be at some time in the future ??

The Foxpro episode I am on airs Thursday. I think they do put them on a dvd at the end of the season.

Looking forward to it!
I watch very few hunting shows but wont miss this one.

Ok, what channel or network is this going to be on? I never, (I mean never) watch hunting shows but will watch this one, if I get it? I have time warner.

Correction, I used to watch Les Johnson's show, but have not in maybe three years or so? I think that's how long ago that I had DirectV?

I've never seen any of the predator hunting shows, don't ever watch much TV at all and never-ever any hunting shows.

But, I'm going out of my way to make an exception for this one!

DVR is set for the series.
Have watched a few episodes and have enjoyed them, so far. Big Al is a likable dude, and hunting in different AOs with different'guest hunters' each week makes for an interesting twist to a predator show.

I see NO indication that my time warner cable has the Outdoor channel? Grrr!

Leonard, I had Time Warner here for a spell, Outdoor Channel was 408. Possibly, your fascist tree huggin' cable company doesn't provide it in your area???

Here's a sneek peak, in case ya couldn't find it...

I could bring up the page but couldn't get any video to play?

I also found the outdoor channel by punching 408. But it says: "NOT AUTHORIZED". I know it's not on my list and when scrolling up and down, I have never seen it before? Maybe I could call?

I'm new to TW. I just bailed on Dish Network because they have been playing games with, first CNN and TCM and then FOX News and FOX Business. And, I think they have outdoor channel but I'm so pissed at Dish I will never go back. They made me pay shipping to send their equipment back, $17!

Cal, what rifle/load will you be carrying on the show?
Just curious, and it sure didn't look like a Ruger in the trailer vid...

KED, it is a Ruger. I got a model 77 in a .220 swift for high school graduation in 1982. I had shot the barrel out of it years ago and it sat collecting dust for quite a while. A couple of years ago I had an extra 22 caliber barrel laying around and I had it chambered to 22x47 Lapua and put on the ruger action for my wife or boy to maybe shoot. Foxpro sent out a newer ruger for me to shoot, but I didn't get along with it very well so I asked if I could shoot my old one. They agreed and I threw a scope on it and it happened to shoot the first load I threw to it. It has a HS stock I bought years ago, and I had it dipped in Kings winter camo when I was fixing it back up. The only issue is that it won't feed the Lapua case worth a shit. So there were no super fast bolt reloads. Good thing I didn't miss any.

Getting shots in my neck at noon-thirty today and will be laid up for a couple days recovering. Have my alarm set to watch this episode today from my sofa. Looking forward to it. Will have to live vicariously through the FP boys for a week or so. That's all good.

Well I hope you guys enjoy it, but I posted elsewhere and will remind you guys I'm not a TV personality! I don't dance, squeal, or giggle at dead coyotes. I'm pretty bland and won't be on anyones list for entertainer of the year.

Sounds good to me Cal. Wouldn't have it any other way!

....that's for sure! I mean, Cal is a pretty laid back guy, hardly the life of the party. And, I'm not that much different. Come to think of it, we have a whole room full of that type, on HM.

And, what he says is interesting, even if it dates me a bit? I have said several times, I think I bought my Ruger 77V in 220 Swift, (maybe) about 1975 or so? I used it almost exclusively for many years. Had it rebarreled to 22-250Ackley years ago. It's in a benchrest stock, hard to recognize.

But, about that time, a friend offered me a Ruger 77V in 220, at a good price and I couldn't resist. Near as I can tell, it was the same first year of manufacture as my original, and retains the cachet for me, it's just kind of special.

One thing, and I have talked to people that have the old Ruger, is that I learned right away that it wouldn't feed reliably. But, it was always from the same side, second round, fourth round. That action needs a bit of work on the feed rails, especially on a case like an Ackley with a sharp shoulder. You do that and, end of problems.

Cool thanks for clarifying!
Just thought we might get to see that beast 6.5 w/107s throttle a coyote!!!
But a 22x47L will suffice... [Smile]

Yeah, seems like I recollect that he uses, (or DID use) the same bullet I use in the Middlested? A 62 Berger. I still have some, bought at close out prices. Fifteen bucks!

I get emails from Foxpro and that how I found out. I watch there episodes and the only thing that I don't care for is a lot of the time they just shoot the coyote or whatever at any range and don't try to work it in. Just got back from a wolf hunt in Ontario and what an experience that was. The hunt was tough and we didn't fill a tag but what an adventure.

Don't have the outdoor channel with my U-verse package. Would have liked to have seen it.

Hey Mert, I have been up there twice. Still no luck.

My wife used to always say about 'ol Cal; "He's a hunk" and that's where he got his custom title!

Just got to sit down and watch. Well done Cal! I enjoyed it. Might have to try and watch a few more, once in awhile. My buddy Pete is going to be on there pretty soon too I think. Putting some new shocks and springs on his truck in a couple days, will have to ask him about it.

Nice job Cal glad yall got some good footage of the dogs working.
Now did you really grin about that coyote getting away or did you have your teeth gritted?

Also last Saturday morning was gassing up before a contest, a guy came over and asked what I was hunting. Told him and he asked if I knew Cenny.
Seen he had some WY plates, anyway already forgot his name, but he said he had worked some with Cenny. Small world sometimes.

Stay after them

The miss was so obviously intentional. Can't have the bunnyhuggers thinking it's executions rather than sport. Or, something?

On the one hand, there's always a little thrill when you first see a coyote coming to the call. On the other hand, I never feel right about a coyote getting away. Especially if it's because of some boner on my part.

But, that's just my take. Those kills are never routine, no matter how easy. It's just not the same as any other kind of hunting. Of course, I don't have the perspective of the professional. But, I bet they still think it's something special.

You know I thought the show would've been more better if Abner would've stayed in the truck and let Cal show what he does and how he does it.

But it's supposed to be entertainment not educational, that's why I don't watch these shows. In fact I need to cancel the "sportsmans" package or cable all together.

I am with you Tom.

Posted by Leonard (Member # 2) on February 13, 2015, 10:18 AM:

Yeah, but let's keep it real as far as a no BS demonstration of what coyote hunting is like, rather than entertaining the "girls".

I don't have a problem with Steve's "Fried Chicken" stuff, I just don't watch it.

Hunting shows don't do it for me, and I don't know why? Don't tell anybody, but Mark Zepp sent me a bunch of DVDs a few years ago and I never got around to watching them. Still haven't.

So, I agree with Tom. I don't know where the market is for this stuff but it ain't me.

I lost a lot of interest in hunting shows. Those Belding guys from Dead dog walking, away, and so much of the canned deer hunts just ruined it for me.

Seems, that the guide does most of the work but the Star of the show gets the credit. Not trying to take anything away from Big Al and some of the others. I'm sure they paid their dues.

I haven't seen this one, but if it is similar to the others I remember, I'd rather the show turn it over to guys like Cal, Kelly, and the other guest. Let them explain why they are doing it the way they do it.

Yeah, it's no wonder I never noticed that I don't get the Outdoor Channel.

Posted by Kokopelli (Member # 633) on February 13, 2015, 01:36 PM:

The usual pabulum offered by the Outdoor Channel seems to bear little resemblance to my hunting reality. I would rather spot and stalk a forky on my own than have a guide lead me to a shooting position and tell me "Take the second one from the left".
Just me, I guess.
The FoxPro/FurTaker videos, on the other hand, I rather enjoy. When people hunt hard and can still laugh at themselves when the wheels fall off, to me, says a lot.
Actually, what I would like to see is to get guys like Cal and Kelly and Ed Wimberly together around a campfire talkin' coyotes and just let the cameras roll.

I wouldn't have been laughing if I missed!

And do yourself a favor LB and watch Zepps videos. They are the best I have seen. No nonsense, good camera work, and good shooting.

Good show, Cal. I had to laugh when Abner missed that shot. They showed you laughing and it reminded me the only other time I've hunted that kind of country and that was with Q. Ain't no laughing when you miss with him. Sure, he isn't gonna rip you a new ass, but he does get "that look" on his face.

The first trip out, and the first coyote I shot, I'd called it as the second of a pair. he'd shot the first and number 2 came down the same trail and checked up about 225, or about a hundred beyond what I usually shot at the time. Q whistled at me, nods that way, and I lined up. He says, "Kill him." A few moments went by while time froze and he again says, a bit more sternly, "KILL HIM", and I shot and the coyote died. At the end of the day, we're recapping the dead pile and asks me why I took so long to shoot on that first one. I told him the truth. I took just long enough to say a little prayer, "God, Pleeease let me not miss this coyote." LOL

You got it, Cal. Not home right now but I will make it a point to watch those videos when I get back. I feel guilty anyway, so I need to do it. I also agree that Mark is a good dude and seems to do a hell of a job with everything he touches. I also got a bunch of his calls, (very generous amount) and they are excellent, really well made. He has high production values, that's for sure.

I still have to wonder about that miss? It was, by a mile, or so?

Good hunting. El Bee
